SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazilian tennis player Thomaz Bellucci has been given a five-month suspension for doping.
The 30-year-old Bellucci, who reached a career high of 21 in the rankings in 2010, said Thursday that a sample he provided last July at the Swedish Open at Bastad tested positive for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide, which can mask other substances.
Bellucci said the positive test was the result of a contaminated vitamin supplement.
KITZBUEHEL, Austria (AP) — Fabio Fognini and Philipp Kohlschreiber both reached their second semifinal in as many weeks at the Generali Open on Thursday.
Fognini, who won his fifth career title in Gstaad, Switzerland on Sunday, received medical treatment for a lower back injury early in the opening set but eased past Thomaz Bellucci 6-3, 6-1. The Brazilian won just one of his eight service games.
MUNICH (AP) — Veteran Tommy Haas' last appearance at the BMW Open ended in a 6-4, 7-5 defeat to fellow German Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round on Wednesday.
Struff hit seven aces and saved five of the seven break points he faced to win in just under an hour and a half against the 39-year-old Haas, who won the clay-court tournament in 2013.
HOUSTON (AP) — Steve Johnson fought through late cramps to win the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship, beating Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) on Sunday at River Oaks Country Club.
The 27-year-old Johnson won his second ATP Tour title, and became the seventh American to win the event since it moved to Houston in 2001. He also won a grass-court title last summer in Nottingham, England.
HOUSTON (AP) — Fourth-seeded Steve Johnson beat top-seeded Jack Sock 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday in an all-American semifinal in the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Kei Nishikori smashed his racket into the red clay after losing the first set on Tuesday, an unusual burst of anger from the usually calm Japanese player.
Destroying the racket didn't help.
He lost the second set, too, as Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci upset the top seed in the first round of the Rio Open 6-4, 6-3.
"It could be the worst match in the last few years," Nishikori said.
Asked if it was the angriest he's ever been on a court, he replied: "Yes, it could have been."
QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Victor Estrella Burgos won his third straight title at the Ecuador Open, defeating Paolo Lorenzi 6-7 (2), 7-5, 7-6 (6) Sunday.
Sunday's title was the third in ATP singles for the unseeded Dominican, and they've all come on clay in Quito.
