Philadelphia Orchestra to tour China to celebrate diplomacy
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Orchestra is celebrating 40 years of official U.S.-China diplomatic ties with a new tour.
Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin will lead the tour in May to Beijing, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Nanjing and Shanghai, with Shanghai-born pianist Haochen Zhang as soloist.
The orchestra says that during a time of uncertainty in the countries' relations, they hope to serve as a "cultural bridge."
Former Germany striker Wagner leaves Bayern for Tianjin
MUNICH (AP) — Former Germany striker Sandro Wagner is leaving Bayern Munich after one year to join Chinese club Tianjin Teda.
The 31-year-old Wagner's contract had been due to expire in 2020.

About 30 police officers prevented Li Wenzu and about a dozen supporters from entering a Supreme Court petition office in Beijing.

Sharapova cuts season short due to shoulder injury recovery
TIANJIN, China (AP) — Maria Sharapova says she will end her 2018 season early, withdrawing from the China Open in Beijing, the Tianjin Open, and the Kremlin Cup in Moscow due to her recovery from a right shoulder injury.
"I will miss competing at each of these tournaments, but it is important that I allow for proper rest and recovery in the upcoming weeks," Sharapova said in a statement on the WTA website.
Sharapova, ranked 24th in the world, was the defending champion at Tianjin.
Kashima ends China interest in Asian Champs League quarters
Kashima Antlers cruised into their first Asian Champions League semifinals and ended Chinese participation by ousting Tianjin Quanjian 5-0 on aggregate on Tuesday.

Tianjin Rural Commercial Bank Chairman Yin Jinbao was found Saturday afternoon with both of his wrists slit, official state media said.
Yin also served as head of the bank's ruling Communist Party committee, giving him quasi-government official status.
