Which Virginia FCS school has most NFL Draft picks since 2000? Listings may surprise
The second and final time Mark Ingram fumbled last season, earning a trip to Sean Payton's doghouse, was in Week 8 vs. Seattle, Ingram's second consecutive game coughing it up. After being benched in favor of Tim Hightower, Ingram responded the next week with his best fantasy outing ever, a 171-yard, two-touchdown demolition of the hapless 49ers.

Hightower has experience playing for new 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan. He was in Washington in 2011 when Shanahan was offensive coordinator.
Saints’ Hightower moving beyond NFL comeback story
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Clustered on a shelf in Tim Hightower's locker at New Orleans Saints headquarters this week were three footballs — symbols of how far he's come since a 2011 knee injury that sidelined him for more than three seasons.
Low-profile RBs are gaining ground on NFL’s stars
MIAMI (AP) — Hark the unheralded running backs.
Fifth-round picks, an undrafted rookie and a player who was out of the NFL for three seasons are among those bursting into the clear this year, leaving defenses and fans wondering the same thing: Where did they come from?
The surprising success by such low-profile rushers as Jay Ajayi, Jordan Howard, Robert Kelley and Tim Hightower speaks to the challenge of evaluating running backs.
Saints seek rushing resurgence against Buccaneers
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Saints running back Tim Hightower isn't about to assume New Orleans' ground game will return to its usual form in Tampa this week — even if last week's anemic performance looked more like an anomaly than a trend.
Panthers LB Kuechly returns to practice, status uncertain
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers middle linebacker Luke Kuechly has returned to the practice field for the first time since suffering a frightening concussion in the team's Nov. 17 win against the New Orleans Saints.
The 2013 NFL Defensive Player of the Year missed the last two games while in the league's concussion protocol and his status for Sunday's game against San Diego is still unclear.
Saints’ prolific day features trick play in rout of Rams
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The grin on Drew Brees' face as he discussed the longest of New Orleans' seven touchdowns against the Los Angeles Rams showed how much the Saints' record-setting quarterback enjoyed the 50-yard pass — even if he wasn't the one who threw it.
"There's an old adage: Let the throwers throw and let the catchers catch, but, man, that was pretty impressive," Brees said.
Panthers’ Kuechly carted off in 4th quarter vs. Saints
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Carolina Panthers star linebacker Luke Kuechly was carted off late in the fourth quarter Thursday night against New Orleans to be evaluated for a possible concussion.
The three-time Pro Bowler was hurt as he tried to tackle Tim Hightower and Hightower's helmet struck him first in the facemask and then possibly the chest. Kuechly laid on the ground for a while, then sat up and appeared to visibly shaken as the cart picked him up to go to the locker room with 4:41 left.
Brees leads Saints to fourth win in five after 0-3 start
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — With Drew Brees' big arm, a 1-2 running punch in Mark Ingram and Tim Hightower and all of those capable receiving targets, the New Orleans Saints suddenly are looking like a legitimate contender again.
Forget that 0-3 start. Brees still has big plans for this bunch.
He threw a pair of touchdown passes to Michael Thomas and another to Ingram, who also ran for a 75-yard score a week after being benched as the Saints beat the lowly San Francisco 49ers 41-23 on Sunday.
Saints’ reserve Hightower emerges in win Seahawks
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — While Mark Ingram's lost fumble practically handed the Seattle Seahawks a touchdown, it also gave Saints running back Tim Hightower an opportunity to lead New Orleans' running game.
It was a pivotal play, indeed, from which New Orleans arguably benefited most.
Ingram was benched, Hightower became the first Saint to rush for more than 100 yards this season, and New Orleans pulled out a 25-20 victory over the favored Seahawks on Sunday.
Seattle Seahawks sign veteran running back C.J. Spiller
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks signed veteran C.J. Spiller to a one-year contract Wednesday to add depth at running back.
The team finalized the deal and added Spiller to the 53-man roster after releasing running back Terrence McGee. McGee was signed late last week from Seattle's practice squad and had three carries for 12 yards in Seattle's 37-18 victory over San Francisco on Sunday.
Depth at RB has Saints confident as season approaches
HOUSTON (AP) — The running back position for the New Orleans Saints appears loaded.
With veterans Mark Ingram, C.J. Spiller and Tim Hightower anchoring the effort and rookie Daniel Lasco proving himself in camp, the Saints have options behind quarterback Drew Brees.
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) — The moment Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro saw a gap opening along the offensive line, he raced through it at full speed, slamming into the first offensive player who tried to block him.
Vaccaro knocked fullback Sione Houma off his feet and into ball carrier Tim Hightower, who was forced to change course. His momentum lost, Hightower was soon enveloped by the Saints' converging defense.
