TIANJIN, China (AP) — Karolina Pliskova and Timea Bacsinszky both won Friday at the Tianjin Open, and they will next face each other in the semifinals.
The top-seeded Pliskova, who is still hoping to qualify for a third straight WTA Finals in Singapore, beat Katie Boulter 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 despite being down a break in the third set.

TIANJIN, China (AP) — Aryna Sabalenka moved closer to a spot in the WTA Finals by beating Sofia Kenin 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-0 in the first round of the Tianjin Open on Tuesday.
The fourth-seeded Sabalenka, who lost to Maria Sharapova in the final last year, won the Wuhan Open title two weeks ago. She also defeated Kenin en-route to that victory.
Second-seeded Caroline Garcia advanced by beating Chinese qualifier Xun Fang Ying 6-4, 6-1.
LONDON (AP) — Two-time French Open semifinalist Timea Bacsinszky has pulled out of Wimbledon because of an injured lower right leg.
The All England Club said Saturday that Bacsinszky will be replaced in the field by Mariana Duque-Marino of Colombia, who lost in the final round of qualifying to 2014 Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard.
Duque-Marino will face Alison Riske of the U.S. in the first round Tuesday. The winner of that match could face No. 6 seed Caroline Garcia in the second round.
The Czech Republic beat Switzerland 3-1 to advance to its 10th straight Fed Cup semifinals on Sunday, and Serena Williams played her first competitive match in more than a year as defending champion United States defeated the Netherlands 3-1.
The Czechs, Fed Cup champions in five of the last seven years, travel to Germany, which made its first semifinals since 2015 after beating 2017 finalist Belarus 3-2 in Minsk. The U.S. goes to France, which defeated Belgium 3-2.

Kvitova's victory in the first reverse singles gave the Czechs an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the first-round match and secured a 10th straight appearance in the last four. They will face Germany or Belarus in the April semifinals.
PRAGUE (AP) — Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will face Viktorija Golubic in the opening singles when the Czech Republic plays Switzerland in the first round of the Fed Cup World Group on Saturday.

On the day she turned 20, Ostapenko became the first unseeded French Open finalist since 1983, using big and bold groundstrokes to end points lickety-split on the way to beating 30th-seeded Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3 on Thursday.

MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Belarus surprised a higher-rated Swiss team 3-2 to reach its first-ever Fed Cup final Sunday.
No. 125-ranked Aryna Sabalenka gave the Belarusians an unassailable 3-1 lead in the best-of-five match as she beat Viktorija Golubic 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. The Swiss then won a dead rubber.
The Belarusian victory sets up a final against the United States in November, when Belarus should have the services of former No. 1-ranked player Victoria Azarenka.

GENEVA (AP) — Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky downed Alize Cornet in straight sets to give the host's a flying start, before Kristina Mladenovic hit back for France later Saturday to level its Fed Cup match at 1-1.
Bacsinszky downed Alize Cornet 7-5, 6-4 in the opening match, but not before requiring medical treatment for a wasp sting at 3-3 in the first set.
Later, 23rd-ranked Kristina Mladenovic leveled the tie for the 2016 finalists when she eased past Belinda Bencic 6-3, 6-4.
ZHUHAI, China (AP) — Chinese wild-card entry Zhang Shuai became the first player to secure a semifinal spot at the WTA Elite Trophy tournament, beating Timea Babos 7-6 (2), 6-4 on Thursday to secure the top spot in her group with two wins.
After a 6-1, 6-1 opening win over Timea Bacsinszky, Zhang needed to win just four games against Babos to win the group. She fell behind 4-1 before recovering to level at 4-4 and then held on to win the first set in a tiebreaker.
ZHUHAI, China (AP) — Top-seeded Johanna Konta opened her Elite Trophy campaign by beating 2011 U.S. Open champion Sam Stosur 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday.
Konta broke Stosur's serve four times and dropped one service game.
