Edmonton Oilers edge Cologne 4-3 in OT in exhibition game
COLOGNE, Germany (AP) — Ryan Strome scored with 2:53 left in overtime as the Edmonton Oilers beat the German league's Cologne Sharks 4-3 in an exhibition game Wednesday.
Strome redirected a pass from Ethan Bear for the winner. Tobias Rieder, Milan Lucic and Ty Rattie also scored for the Oilers, who outshot the Sharks 37-19. The game was a homecoming for Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl, a Cologne native. He had one assist. Jason Akeson, Moritz Muller and Ben Hanowski scored for Cologne.
Coyotes sign goalie Darcy Kuemper to 2-year extension
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Coyotes signed Darcy Kuemper to a two-year contract extension Thursday, a day after acquiring the goalie from the Los Angeles Kings. Financial terms were not disclosed.
"The Coyotes have a young and talented team and a very bright future ahead," the 27-year-old Kuemper said in a team statement. "I'm excited to be a part of it and can't wait to contribute."
The Coyotes sent speedy forward Tobias Rieder and goalie Scott Wedgewood to Los Angeles in the trade.
Coyotes acquire Kuemper from Kings for Rieder, Wedgewood
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Coyotes acquired goalie Darcy Kuemper from the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday for forward Tobias Rieder and goalie Scott Wedgewood.
The 27-year-old Kuemper was 10-1-3 with a 2.10 goals-against average in 19 games for the Kings this season. He's 51-35-17 with a 2.52 GAA in 104 career games with Minnesota and Los Angeles.
The 6-foot-5 Kuemper will join No. 1 goalie Antti Raanta as the netminding pair for the Coyotes.
Coyotes start fast, send Blackhawks to 6th straight loss
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Coyotes haven't had many nights like this one. Same for the Chicago Blackhawks, at least before this season.
Max Domi, Clayton Keller, Alex Goligoski and Tobias Rieder each had a goal and an assist, and the Coyotes pounded the slumping Blackhawks 6-1 on Monday.
The Coyotes ended a nine-game losing streak to the Blackhawks and sent last-place Chicago to its season-high sixth straight loss.
Goligoski, Raanta push Coyotes past Avalanche 3-1
DENVER (AP) — The Arizona Coyotes withstood a late push and held off the Colorado Avalanche.
The NHL's worst team sure appreciated the change of fortune — if even for just one night.
Alex Goligoski scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second period, and Arizona survived a flurry of near-misses by the Avalanche to come away with a 3-1 victory.

TORONTO (AP) — After a terrible start to the season, the Arizona Coyotes are finally enjoying some success.
Antti Raanta made 26 saves and Arizona ended the Toronto Maple Leafs' winning streak at six games with a 4-1 victory Monday night.
"I think they're one of the better teams in the league. We knew we had to play a certain way to beat them," Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said. "It's hard to do for 60 minutes and tonight I think we did it for the most part."

Tarasenko, Blues stay red-hot with win over Coyotes
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Vladimir Tarasenko and the St. Louis Blues are knocking on the door for a postseason berth.
Tarasenko, Patrik Berglund and David Perron scored, Berglund added an assist and the Blues beat the Arizona Coyotes 3-1 on Wednesday night.
Berglund tied his career high with his 22nd goal, and the Blues have won 11 of 13 games and have points in 12 of those.
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — The Florida Panthers kept their faint playoff hopes alive with a much-needed win.
Jonathan Marchessault scored two goals in 26 seconds and Shawn Thornton scored an unusual one to lift the Panthers over the Arizona Coyotes 3-1 on Thursday night.
James Reimer made 22 saves and the Panthers snapped a two-game losing streak. The Panthers are seven points behind the Boston Bruins for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Christian Fischer picked right up from where he left off in the minors.
Just called up from Tucson of the AHL, the 6-foot-2, 19-year-old right wing scored on his first NHL shot to help the Arizona Coyotes snap a four-game losing streak and beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 on Saturday night.
"That's my game, just getting to the net there, and that's what I've been doing so far in Tucson," he said, "so it just happened that was the goal it happened."
Puempel gets power-play hat trick, Rangers hold off Coyotes
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Matt Puempel hasn't really thought of himself as a goal scorer. After all, he'd only netted two goals in 24 games this season, and that tied a career high.
Thursday night could start to change that. Puempel got two of his three power-play goals late in the third period to help the New York Rangers avert a collapse and beat the Arizona Coyotes 6-3.
Duchene scores twice, Avalanche beat Coyotes 3-2
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Matt Duchene scored twice and the Colorado Avalanche held on to beat the road-weary Arizona Coyotes 3-2 on Saturday night.
Rene Bourque also scored for the Avalanche, who got 23 saves from backup goalie Calvin Pickard.
The Coyotes, just back from a 1-5 road trip, took the lead on Radim Vrbata's goal barely five minutes into the first period but the Avalanche scored the next three before Tobias Rieder made it a one-goal game with 4:04 to play.
Coyotes ready to take next step forward
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Coyotes, like every other NHL team, went into the 2015-16 season filled with optimism.
Realistically, they — and nearly everyone else — knew it would be a rebuilding year, even after the team got off to a fast start.
The Coyotes again have that optimistic slant heading into this season. This time, with a core of talented young players and some veteran additions, they expect to live up to it.
Coyotes sign Rieder to 2-year deal
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Coyotes and center Tobias Rieder have ended a lengthy negotiation, agreeing to a two-year contract with an average annual salary of $2.225 million.
Rieder will receive $2 million the first season and $2.45 million the second in the deal announced on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old Rieder played all 82 games last season, finishing with 14 goals and 23 assists. He has 27 goals and 31 assists in 154 career NHL games.
