Serbia’s pro-Russia leader is urged to drop presidency bid
BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic should drop his idea of running for a second term this spring, a senior leader in Serbia's ruling coalition urged Saturday.
Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that his Socialist Party supports Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic for the presidency instead and Nikolic should withdraw.
Populist party says Serbia PM to run for president
BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic will run for the presidency in the election in April, his ruling populist party said on Tuesday.
Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said after a Serbian Progressive Party meeting that Vucic was unanimously approved as its candidate.
Vucic said in an interview on Serbian state television that he has accepted the candidacy in order to "maintain continuity and stability."
"This is of great importance for the future of Serbia," he said.
Kosovo wants EU, NATO to warn Serbia against escalation
PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) — Kosovo's president called on the European Union and NATO on Thursday to warn Serbia against inciting a new conflict in Kosovo and the Balkans.
President Hashim Thaci's request followed a Brussels meeting with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and the prime ministers of the two countries, which was convened by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia warned on Friday that it would ignore future possible extradition requests for terrorism and other suspects wanted by France and other European countries if French courts don't hand over a former Kosovo prime minister.

TRBUSNICA, Serbia (AP) — Police from Serbia and the Serb mini-state in Bosnia have held a joint anti-terrorism drill that could add to simmering tensions in the Balkans stemming from the 1990s war.
The exercise, dubbed "Drina 2016," was held Sunday at the border between Serbia and Bosnia simulating an extremist attack and a bus hijacking. Several thousand people watched the drill.
US Vice President Joe Biden to make farewell Balkans visit
BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Joe Biden is scheduled to be in Serbia and Kosovo this week for his final visit as U.S. vice president to the Balkans, where he played an important role in ending the Yugoslav wars in the 1990s.
Biden plans to be in Belgrade on Tuesday for a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and President Tomislav Nikolic, both members of Serbia's government during a bloody crackdown against Albanian separatists in 1999.
