CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Speedy wide receivers and a fleet-footed and mobile quarterback have sparked anticipation about Virginia's offensive potential this season, and a lumbering tight end could also be a part of the Cavaliers' success.
BOSTON (AP) — AJ Dillon ran for 1,589 yards and 14 touchdowns for Boston College as a freshman behind a patchwork offensive line that was constantly shuffling in new players because of injury.
Give Dillon a full season behind some healthy blockers, and the Eagles think they can break into the top half of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Tommy Sweeney saw Boston College's defense do its part for most of Saturday's game against Wake Forest. The Eagles tight end realized the offense had to contribute, too.
Patrick Towles threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Sweeney with 8:03 remaining and Boston College's defense made two late stands in a 17-14 victory.
"We knew at some point we had to go down and win this game," Sweeney said.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A receiver rushed for a touchdown. A running back threw for a score. Boston College tried anything and everything to finally end its long ACC losing streak.
Running back Davon Jones threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Tommy Sweeney on a trick play with 4:43 left, and BC earned its first Atlantic Coast Conference victory since 2014 by beating North Carolina State 21-14 on Saturday.
