49ers promote RB Matthew Dayes from practice squad
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have promoted running Matthew Dayes to the active roster from the practice squad and waived defensive back Tyvis Powell.
Dayes was active for Monday night's game against the New York Giants in place of the injured Raheem Mostert.
Former starting CB Tony Lippett waived by Dolphins
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Former starting cornerback Tony Lippett has been waived by the Miami Dolphins after missing all of last season with a torn Achilles tendon.
Lippett started 13 games in 2016 but struggled returning from his injury in training camp this year.
Also cut Saturday was receiver Leonte Carroo, a third-round pick in 2016 who has only 10 receptions in two seasons.
Detroit – While 6-year-old Caleb Tedford was in physical therapy, Miami Dolphins cornerback and Detroit native Tony Lippett was waiting to surprise him with a room makeover on Saturday at Children's Hospital of Michigan.
Lippett returned to his hometown and said he wanted to bring joy to a family spending Christmas in a hospital. With a few calls to Children's Hospital of Michigan – DMC, his rehab therapist, Dawn Greiner recommended him.
Costly camp: Add CB Lippett to Dolphins’ long injury list
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins limped to the end of training camp Tuesday, and it's difficult to argue they're better than when they started.
Even by NFL standards, injuries have taken a heavy toll, and the latest will sideline cornerback Tony Lippett for the entire season. Lippett tore his Achilles tendon during practice Monday and will need surgery.
"He jumped up and then came down," coach Adam Gase said. "No one touched him. That was it."
