Alan Cumming shines in lackluster 'Instinct' (review)
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The new CBS crime drama "Instinct" features a wonderful actor in a sleuthing role ideally suited to him. No question, the character of former CIA operative Dylan Reinhart fits Alan Cumming as beautifully as, say, Lt. Columbo's wrinkled raincoat fit Peter Falk or Adrian Monk's Everest of neuroses fit Tony Shalhoub.

Tony Shalhoub: Still ‘Monk’ after all these years
‘Monk’ star Tony Shalhoub’s ‘irresistible’ Broadway musical

The Emmy winner has played Germans, Greeks, Hispanics and Russians and even a space alien in the "Men in Black" films. On Broadway in "Act One," he actually played three characters — one with a Cockney accent, one with just a hint of a British accent and one who was an urbane Northeasterner.
