PARIS (AP) — French President Emmanuel Macron says France will remain militarily involved in Syria this year regardless of the U.S. intention to withdraw its troops from the country.
In his New Year speech to the armed forces in Toulouse, in southern France, Macron said Thursday President Donald Trump's decision "must not make us deviate from our goal: eradicating Daesh." He used the Arabic acronym to refer to the Islamic State group.
He added: "Any hasty decision to withdraw would be a mistake."
French yellow vest protests hit 9th week, clash with police
PARIS (AP) — Thousands of yellow vest protesters marched Saturday through Paris and other French cities for a ninth straight weekend to denounce President Emmanuel Macron's economic policies, and repeated tensions broke out with police.
Sporadic violence broke out during protests in Paris, Bourges, Bordeaux, Rouen, Marseille and Toulouse.
Protesters walked peacefully through central Paris from the Finance Ministry in the east of the French capital to the Arc de Triomphe in the west.
Barcelona seals deal to sign young Toulouse defender Todibo
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Barcelona has reached a deal to sign young Toulouse defender Jean-Clair Todibo in July.
Barcelona said Tuesday he will join on a free transfer after his contract with the French club ends on June 30.
The 19-year-old Frenchman joined Toulouse in 2016 and made his first-team debut earlier this season. The central defender has made 10 appearances, all as a starter, and scored in the team's 1-1 draw at Rennes in September.

French soccer games postponed because of expected protests
PARIS (AP) — Two French league matches scheduled for Saturday have been postponed amid expected anti-government protests.
The affected games are Paris Saint-Germain against Montpellier and Toulouse against Lyon.
In both cases, the French league says authorities requested the postponement. It says the matches will be rescheduled.

The 50-year-old Faury currently serves as president of Airbus' commercial aircraft division. He was CEO of Airbus Helicopters from 2013 until February 2018.
Board Chairman Denis Ranque praised Faury's "global outlook, extensive operational experience, strong personal values and straightforward leadership style" in a statement on Monday.

Toulouse Oliver on Tuesday said she hopes to allow straight-ticket voting in fall elections. The change would fulfill a campaign pledge.
Also known as straight-party voting, the option was removed beginning in 2012 elections by then-Secretary of State Dianna Duran.
Monaco’s defense falls apart in 3-3 draw at Toulouse

TOULOUSE, France (AP) — Struggling French league club Toulouse has fired coach Pascal Dupraz and replaced him with Michael Debeve.
Dupraz was dismissed Monday following a 2-1 loss at Montpellier over the weekend that left the club in second-to-last place in the league standings.
