New Orleans dominates in 2nd half, beats McNeese 90-74
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Makur Puou and Travin Thibodeaux combined for 41 points as New Orleans dominated the second half to roll to a 90-74 win over McNeese in Southland Conference play on Saturday.
New Orleans (14-12, 11-4), which won the conference last year, remains 1.5 games behind league-leading Nicholls. The victory gave the Privateers 800 wins in program history.
New Orleans rolls to 62-53 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Travin Thibodeaux had 16 points and Bryson Robinson added 15 as New Orleans rolled to a 62-53 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday night.
Dionta Champion added eight points as 11 Privateers put points on the board.
Nicholls knocks off New Orleans 81-64
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Roddy Peters scored 27 points to lead Nicholls to an 81-64 win over New Orleans on Saturday and into a first place tie atop the Southland Conference.
Kimani Jackson added 15 points and eight rebounds, Jahvaughn Powell had 14 points and Tevon Saddler scored 12 for Nicholls, which shot 53 percent. Peters was 10 for 19 from the field, dished out six assists and had three steals.
New Orleans wins 4th straight, beats Northwestern St. 82-64
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Travin Thibodeaux scored 21 points to lead four in double-figure scoring as New Orleans beat Northwestern State 82-64 on Wednesday night.
New Orleans (12-10, 9-2 Southland Conference) has won four straight and five of its last six games. Northwestern State (3-18, 0-10) has lost 13 in a row.
Thibodeaux shot 8 of 15 from the floor. Troy Green added 12 points for the Privateers. Makur Puou had 11 points and Ezekiel Charles 10.
Puou jumper spurs New Orleans over Incarnate Word 68-58
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Makur Puou scored 18 points on 8-for-9 shooting and helped spark a late run and New Orleans pulled away from Incarnate Word in the final minutes for a 68-58 win on Saturday, remaining poised to claim a share of the lead in the Southland Conference.
New Orleans (11-10, 8-2) entered Saturday a half-game behind Nicholls State (13-8, 7-1) which was playing third place Southeast Louisiana later Saturday.
Robinson, New Orleans beat Northwestern State 73-67
NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Bryson Robinson scored 17 points and Ezekiel Charles tied his career highs with four 3-pointers and 15 points to help New Orleans beat Northwestern State 73-67 on Wednesday night.
Travin Thibodeaux added 11 points for New Orleans (10-10, 7-2 Southland Conference).
New Orleans rallies to beat Incarnate Word 74-70
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Travin Thibodeaux scored 21 points as New Orleans rallied late in the second half for a 74-70 win on Saturday night to keep Incarnate Word winless in Southland Conference play.
Incarnate Word never trailed in the first half, taking a 38-34 lead into the break. Ezekiel Charles had a layup and Thibodeaux slammed home a dunk to give New Orleans its first lead, 50-48 with 12:26 remaining.
Central Arkansas beats New Orleans 81-57
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Jordan Howard scored 24 points, Mathieu Kamba added 23 points with three steals, and Central Arkansas pulled away early from New Orleans to win 81-57 on Wednesday night.
Howard scored 10 amid a 12-2 run and Central Arkansas led 40-23 at halftime on Kamba's dunk. Howard had 14 points in the half and the Bears held New Orleans to 24.2 percent shooting from the floor.
Kamba scored five points during an 11-2 run and the Bears led 70-45 with 7:26 to play.
Thibodeaux scores 20 in New Orleans 61-55 triumph
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Travin Thibodeaux scored 20 points and New Orleans survived poor shooting for a 61-55 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday.
Lamont Berzat added 15 points and Michael Zeno 11 for New Orleans (8-9, 5-1 Southland), which shot only 33 percent and made just 62 percent of its free throws (21 of 34). Berzat did make all three of his 3-point tries and the Privateers came through from the arc, making 6 of 11.
Canete scores 23, Stephen F. Austin wins key Southland clash
NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Ivan Canete scored 23 points, including 3-pointers at key moments as Stephen F. Austin held off a Southland Conference challenge from New Orleans 78-68 Wednesday night.
Travin Thibodeaux led New Orleans with 24 points before fouling out with 34 seconds remaining, picking up his fourth and fifth fouls in an 18-second span as the Privateers cut a 15-point lead down to two three times late in the game.
Robinson sparks New Orleans to 82-75 OT win over McNeese
LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Bryson Robinson hit seven 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 31 points, scoring nine straight points for New Orleans in overtime, and the Privateers outlasted McNeese 82-75 on Saturday.
New Orleans goes to 3-0 in Southland, beats Lamar 72-62
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Makur Puou scored 14 points and led four players into double-figure scoring as New Orleans won its third straight to start the Southland Conference season, turning back Lamar 72-62 on Wednesday night.
The Privateers held Lamar to just 16 first-half points and held a 13-point advantage at intermission.
Joey Frenchwood knocked down a jumper in the first minute that got Lamar within one, but New Orleans (6-8, 3-0) ran off 10 straight before Frenchwood could hit a second jumper.
New Orleans scrambles to beat Houston Baptist 64-57
HOUSTON (AP) — Bryson Robinson scored five of his seven points in the final minutes to give New Orleans enough of an advantage to hold off Houston Baptist 64-57 on Saturday night.
New Orleans rallies to beat Abilene Christian 77-74
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Travin Thibodeaux made two free throws and Makur Puou slammed home a dunk in the final seconds as New Orleans came back to beat Abilene Christian 77-74 in the Southland Conference opener on Thursday night.
Abilene Christian's Tevin Foster nailed a 3-point jumper and followed with two free throws to give the Wildcats a 74-73 lead with 26 seconds remaining. Thibodeaux, who finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, sank two free throws for a 75-74 lead.
Thibodeaux’s 22 spurs New Orleans past Panhandle St., 107-59
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Travin Thibodeaux scored 22 points, grabbed eight boards and made five steals as New Orleans plundered NAIA Oklahoma Panhandle State, 107-59 in the Privateers final nonconference home game on Monday night.
Thibodeaux, who scored a career-high 23 in a loss to Louisiana, knocked down 8 of 12 shots from the field and was 6 of 8 from the line.
New Orleans downs Williams Baptist 87-70
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Damion Rosser scored a season-high 19 points, Troy Green added 11 points with six assists, and New Orleans beat NAIA Williams Baptist 87-70 on Saturday.
Lamont Berzat scored 11 with four assists, Makur Puou had 10 points with nine rebounds, and Dionta Champion had a career-high 10 boards and three steals for the Privateers (2-5). New Orleans shot 54 percent from the field while holding the Eagles to 40.9 percent. Travin Thibodeaux blocked a career-high five shots.
Gray leads Houston to 75-66 win over New Orleans
HOUSTON (AP) — Rob Gray scored 23 points and Houston went 8 for 8 from the foul line in the final 28 seconds to hold off New Orleans 75-66 on Wednesday night.
New Orleans made its four 3-pointers and shot 54 percent in the second half but the Cougars never faltered. After the Privateers closed within five with 2:17 to play, Armoni Brooks knocked down a 3-pointer and Gray followed with a layup for a 10-point lead at 1:13.
New Orleans beats Division III Spring Hill 74-67
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Travin Thibodeaux scored 13 points and had five assists to lead New Orleans to a 74-67 victory over Division III Spring Hill on Friday.
Thibodeaux made just 3 of 10 field goals but was 7-of-9 shooting from the line. Michael Zeno added 12 points for New Orleans (1-3). Makur Puou chipped in 11 points.
Brandon Fischer scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to lead Spring Hill. Dwight Harris had 13 points and Andrew Dotson finished with 12.
Nunn, Walker combine for 51, Oakland beats New Orleans 87-68
ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Martez Walker had 27 points and Kendrick Nunn added 24 as Oakland had the hot hand early and kept the lead throughout to take an 87-68 win over New Orleans on Monday night.
The Golden Grizzlies (2-0) shot 90 percent from the floor to start the game and jumped out to a 31-10 lead at the 10:10 mark of the first half. They were up 46-26 by halftime. The Privateers could never close the gap.
LoVett, Clark II lead St. John’s to 77-61 win over UNO
NEW YORK (AP) — Marcus LoVett had 23 points, hitting five from long range, and Marvin Clark II added 15 points as St. John's defeated New Orleans 77-61 in the season opener on Friday night.
Shamorie Ponds added 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out six assists for St. John's. Bashir Ahmed chipped in 10 points.
