Auburn cornerback Carlton Davis declares for NFL draft
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn cornerback Carlton Davis is skipping his senior season to enter the NFL draft.
The second-team Associated Press All-American announced his decision in a Twitter post Wednesday, thanking Auburn fans for their support. The 6-foot-1, 203-pound Davis started all three seasons at Auburn, including as a true freshman.
He is projected as an early round pick with some mock drafts having him go in the first round.
Auburn football: Why Malzahn wants players to have fun after a win
AUBURN — Marlon Davidson described the second half of Auburn’s blowout win over Georgia perfectly.
“It was a party,” the sophomore defensive said with a smile.
And what does one do at a party? You dance. Several Auburn players certainly showed off dance moves as the game against the team previously No. 1 in the playoff rankings.
Party crashers? No. 10 Auburn in way of Georgia, Alabama
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — The Auburn Tigers can really crash the playoff party.
Who knows, the 10th-ranked Tigers might end up even receiving an invite. When you play the nation's top two teams — No. 2 Georgia and No. 1 Alabama in The Associated Press poll — in your final Southeastern Conference games, you can really spruce up that resume, after all.
And at the same time, the Tigers could put a blemish on the records of the only two SEC teams without one.
No. 16 Auburn begins big month with visit to Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — No. 16 Auburn has a big November ahead with games against top-ranked Alabama and No. 2 Georgia coming up.
Before they host two of the best teams in football, the Tigers make a trip to Texas A&M this weekend to face a team looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Mississippi State.
AUBURN — Tre’ Williams expects all of Auburn’s injured players to at least make the trip to Texas A&M this weekend and he can include himself in that conversation.
Auburn, which is ranked No. 16 in the latest Associated Press poll, spent the past week trying to heal injured players after eight straight weeks of action. That list includes Williams. A senior linebacker and co-captain, Williams had been nursing a shoulder injury for the past month.
Auburn football: Thomas get significant snaps in reserve role again
AUBURN — For the second straight year, Daniel Thomas is the living embodiment of the next-man-up motto of Auburn’s defense.
Last season, after being the last person offered a scholarship in Auburn’s 2017 recruiting class, Thomas played a majority of the Iron Bowl rivalry game and the Sugar Bowl because of a shoulder injury to senior Rudy Ford. Months after making a name for himself by getting two interceptions in the loss at Alabama, Thomas is in the same situation.
Auburn football: Bye week coming at perfect time for defensive back injuries
AUBURN — Auburn had no other option at Arkansas but to turn to Stephen Roberts and ask him to play some snaps at cornerback.
Roberts, a senior who has started the last three seasons at strong safety, found himself on the outside island of cornerback due to Auburn’s numerous injury issues in the secondary. Sophomore cornerback Javaris Davis has missed three of the last five games including the 52-20 blowout at Arkansas with a severe hamstring injury.
No. 12 Auburn tries to keep rolling against Mississippi
Mississippi (2-2, 0-1 SEC) at No. 12 Auburn (4-1, 2-0), Saturday, Noon ET (SEC Network).
Line: Auburn by 21.
Series record: Auburn leads 30-11.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
The Tigers are trying to win their third straight game to start the SEC schedule and further establish themselves as legitimate Western Division contenders. Ole Miss wants a strong bounce-back from a 66-3 loss at No. 1 Alabama.
No. 2 Clemson, Watson survive 19-13 scare against Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Clemson's Dabo Swinney kept his kicker on the sideline and put the game in star quarterback Deshaun Watson's hands.
The decision worked in the second-ranked Tigers' 19-13 win over Auburn on Saturday night, but not without a few more anxious moments in an opener filled with them.
Auburn DB Stephen Roberts suspended for opener after arrest
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn defensive back Stephen Roberts won't play against No. 2 Clemson following his arrest on two misdemeanor charges.
Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday that Roberts is suspended for Saturday night's opener. After that, Malzahn says Roberts' status will be week to week and, "We'll see how he responds."
Roberts was arrested last week and charged with attempting to elude an officer and possessing a firearm without a license.
