Williams has 240 yards rushing as A&M routs Northwestern St.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Coach Jimbo Fisher has preached about the importance of explosive plays since he took over at Texas A&M.
On Thursday night, Trayveon Williams gave his new coach exactly that when he ran 73 yards for a touchdown on the team's third offensive play to get things going in what ended as a 59-7 rout of Northwestern State in Fisher's debut at the school.
A new offensive approach and good health could add up to Texas A&M junior running back Trayveon Williams having a big bounce-back season.
A&M is expected to rely more on a power running game for offensive balance under first-year head coach Jimbo Fisher, and that's music to Williams' feet.
"[The new offense] will be strong to the run game, and it will open up the pass game a lot, and I'm excited about it," Williams said.
Aggies’ Trayveon Williams leaves Belk Bowl with head injury
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Texas A&M running back Trayveon Williams has left the Belk Bowl against Wake Forest with a head injury.
Williams took a shot to the back of the helmet as he was falling after a running play. He remained on the ground for several minutes before getting up.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Trayveon Williams assumed he had the edge.
Isaiah Buggs knew otherwise.

Kendall Bussey beginning to show form that attracted Texas A&M’s eye
Texas A&M doesn't have a starting quarterback, but it has three running backs it can count on in crunch time.

Here are the preseason grades for the 2017 Aggies with last season's preseason grades in parentheses:
QUARTERBACKS D+ (B-)
• The good: It's nice to have choices. Redshirt freshman Nick Starkel has great potential; true freshman Kellen Mond can run and has plenty of speed when he does; and senior Jake Hubenak is reliable.
• The bad: No one knows what's going to happen. Starkel could be the program's savior or the next quarterback to transfer.
Ready to run: Trayveon Williams and Keith Ford aim to follow impressive debut seasons
Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin often reminded the media in spring 2016 that early enrollee Trayveon Williams should be at senior prom instead of college football practice.
The true freshman would go on to lead the team in rushing, and set rushing records for freshmen. This year, he will be counted on as a primary weapon on an inexperienced offense.
Hot K-State, cold Aggies will square off in Texas Bowl
