The 215-pound Hyatt is from White Plains, New York, but spent the past academic year at the Miller School in Charlottesville, Virginia. Shooting nearly 47 percent, Hyatt averaged 18 points and 8.5 rebounds for a squad that won a state title.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Duop Reath shot 10 of 14 from the field and finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and two steals to help LSU beat Louisiana-Lafayette 84-76 on Wednesday night in the first round of the NIT.
Brandon Sampson scored 18 points, Skylar Mays added 11 and Tremont Waters had nine points with seven assists for LSU.
Mississippi St. downs LSU, heads to SEC quarters
ST. LOUIS (AP) — With 34 seconds left, Mississippi State extended its lead to 78-71, and it looked as if the Bulldogs were going to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
But as time wound down, those hopes faded as LSU's Skylar Mays hit a 3-pointer and the Bulldogs turned it over on the ensuing possession. With 10 seconds left, Tremont Waters drilled a 3 and the Tigers closed to 78-77.
The Bulldogs avoided foul attempts on the inbound and Nick Weatherspoon capped the victory with a dunk.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The ball nearly got away from LSU's Tremont Waters during one of the 5-foot-11 point guard's brazen, penetrating dribbles into a crowd of towering defenders.
Waters saved his dribble by darting along the baseline toward an empty corner, where he turned, saw no one had followed him, and buried a 3-pointer.
"That's good coaching," LSU coach Will Wade deadpanned. "He's just a very instinctive player and a very, very good player. You can't teach that."
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina coach Frank Martin needed talent after losing three of his best players from last year's Final Four team. He turned to two graduate transfers mostly riding the bench at leagues far away from the Southeastern Conference.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Yante Maten puts a lot of stock in moving into second place on Georgia's career scoring list.
"It means a lot," he said, "just being able to represent my school the way I've tried to for the past four years and just having the opportunity to make plays night in and night out."
Maten had 27 points and 11 rebounds, freshman Rayshaun Hammonds scored a career-high 21 and Georgia beat LSU 93-82 on Saturday.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — When Tremont Waters wasn't jolting fans out of their seats with dazzling layups or pull-up jumpers from well behind the 3-point line, he was making history with his knack for helping his LSU teammates score.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Tremont Waters made a shot in the lane with 19 seconds remaining in the game to give LSU a 64-63 Southeastern Conference victory against Missouri on Saturday.
Waters pulled LSU (15-11, 6-8) within one point on a short jumper with 1:08 remaining. LSU got a stop when Aaron Epps rebounded a missed jumper by Jontay Porter with 40 seconds to go and Waters then made his game-winning shot.
Waters lead LSU past Arkansas 94-86
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Tremont Waters had 27 points and a season-high 11 assists as LSU defeated Arkansas 94-86 in a Southeastern Conference game Saturday.
The Tigers (13-9, 4-6) never trailed after Daryl Edwards' 3-pointer put them ahead 13-12 less than eight minutes into the game. The Razorbacks' deficit was less than six points on just two occasions after halftime.
Heron scores 21 points, No. 19 Auburn routs LSU 95-70
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — After coming out flat in its previous two home games, Auburn gave the crowd plenty to cheer about right from the start Saturday.
Mustapha Heron had 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting as No. 19 Auburn cruised to a 95-70 win over LSU, maintaining sole possession of first place in the Southeastern Conference.
Bryce Brown scored 15 points and DeSean Murray had 18 points and eight rebounds for Auburn (19-2, 7-1 SEC). Heron also grabbed eight boards.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Duop Reath turned in a second straight dominant performance around the basket and his LSU teammates didn't let this one go to waste.
Reath scored 21, Tremont Waters added 15 points and LSU snapped a three-game skid with a 77-65 victory over Texas A&M on Tuesday night.
Maten’s shot with 5 seconds left pulls Georgia by LSU 61-60
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Yante Maten's field goal in the lane with five seconds remaining gave Georgia a 61-60 Southeastern Conference victory against LSU on Tuesday night.
The Tigers (11-6, 2-3) pulled ahead 60-59 on a basket by Duop Reath with 39 seconds left, and the game-winning field goal followed an offensive rebound by Juwan Parker with 23 seconds to play.
LSU's Tremont Waters missed an off-balance 3-point shot with two seconds remaining.
BATON ROUGE- The LSU men's basketball team dropped a close conference game against the Alabama Crimson Tide, 74-66, Saturday night in the Maravich Center.
With the loss, LSU falls to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Alabama improves to 11-6 on the season and 3-2 in the Southeastern Conference action.
LSU returns to action against Georgia Tuesday Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. CT in the PMAC.
