Alliance to allocate players using college affiliation first
When the Alliance of American Football makes its first snap next February, there could be lots of familiar names playing for each of the eight teams.
Makes sense, too, because a brand new league needs as many hooks to attract fans as it can find. The Alliance is going with a geographic allocation system that takes advantage of where players attended college, or where they performed in the NFL.
Former NFL running back Richardson joins Saskatchewan of CFL
REGINA, Saskatchewan (AP) — Trent Richardson, the third overall pick of the 2012 NFL draft, has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League .
Richardson played two seasons with the Cleveland Browns before he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2014 first-round draft pick. He played two seasons in Indianapolis before he was cut by the Colts.
Former NFL running back Trent Richardson denies abuse
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Former NFL and Alabama running back Trent Richardson is denying charges that he hit his former girlfriend, who is the mother of his four children.
Richardson told Al.com (http://bit.ly/2o90Dru ) in an interview published Thursday that he would never strike a female. He says his February arrest in suburban Birmingham happened after former girlfriend Sevina Fatu punched him and pulled out some of his hair.
Former NFL running back Trent Richardson arrested in Alabama
HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — Former NFL running back Trent Richardson is facing a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in Alabama.
Police in the Birmingham suburb of Hoover say the 26-year-old Richardson was jailed Friday with bond set at $1,000.
A police statement says officers received a call about yelling coming from a guest room at a hotel Thursday night. It says police responded and found a woman with scratches and bruises on her face.
Suggs, Steve Smith among 6 Ravens on PUP list
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Baltimore Ravens standouts Terrell Suggs, Steve Smith and Elvis Dumervil are among six players who will start training camp on the physically unable to perform list.
Suggs, a six-time Pro Bowl linebacker, and Smith, a 37-year-old receiver, both tore Achilles tendons last season. Dumervil, who had six sacks in 2015, is recovering from an offseason foot surgery.
