SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have signed tackle Sam Young to a one-year deal and placed receiver Trent Taylor on injured reserve.
49ers RB Matt Breida questionable for game vs. Packers
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers running back Matt Breida is questionable for Monday night's game against the Green Bay Packers because of shoulder and ankle injuries.
Breida was limited in practice on Saturday and will be a game-time decision at Green Bay. He is sixth in the league in rushing with 369 yards.
Rookie wide receiver Pettis in for Goodwin for 49ers
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — With Marquise Goodwin being ruled out for Sunday's game against Detroit, San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Dante Pettis is slated for his first NFL start.
Coach Kyle Shanahan made that announcement Friday after Goodwin missed the entire week of practice with a bruised thigh suffered in last week's loss at Minnesota.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead has been sidelined by a hamstring injury.
The 49ers announced Tuesday that Armstead is week-to-week because of the injury. The team also said tight end Cole Hikutini will miss practice this week with a groin injury and right guard Joshua Garnett is day to day with a knee injury.

1. 49ers kicker Robbie Gould turned toward the Bears' sideline and started to celebrate. The former Bears kicker, who was cut just prior to the 2016 season opener after 11 seasons in Chicago, connected for the game winner from 24 yards out. Gould made five field goals on the day and was responsible for all 15 of San Francisco's points.
49ers place WR Pierre Garcon on IR with neck injury
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers will place leading receiver Pierre Garcon on injured reserve for the remainder of the season with a broken bone in his neck.
The 49ers (0-8) said Thursday that Garcon has a non-displaced fracture of the C5 pedicle. The typical rehabilitation time for that type of injury is eight weeks.
The San Francisco 49ers selected Trent Taylor in the fifth round of the NFL Draft, but with the way he's playing in training camp, the LA Tech alum may be worth much more than that.
The folks in Ruston are used to seeing the Evangel grad make incredible catches every day and the 49ers are now getting a taste of that action. Taylor has turned heads in San Francisco with his signature one handed grabs and stellar work on the sideline.
Louisiana Tech beats Navy 48-45 on AF Bowl-ending field goal
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Louisiana Tech senior quarterback Ryan Higgins was bawling like a baby even before Jonathan Barnes' game-ending kick went through the uprights to win the Armed Forces Bowl.
"As soon as (the holder) put the ball down, I felt like the kick was money," Higgins said. "Each person that I hugged after that, it was just getting worse and worse. .... I just couldn't be happier to send my class and this team out on a high note."
Navy, Louisiana Tech both slip into Armed Forces Bowl
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Navy is trying to finish back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time. Louisiana Tech can get to nine wins for the third year in a row, something the Bulldogs have never done in Division I.
For all their recent successes, though, both teams carry two-game losing streaks into the Armed Forces Bowl on Friday, including losses in their respective conference championship games.
Mullens throws for 3 TDs; Southern Miss beats LaTech 39-24
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Nick Mullens threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns and sneaked in for another in his final home game as Southern Miss defeated Louisiana Tech 39-24 on Friday night.
Mullens, who sat out the last two games because of a concussion after having a 25-game starting streak end, became the Eagles' all-time touchdown passing leader with 86, passing Austin Davis (2008-11). D.J. Thompson had 135 yards receiving and two scores. Ito Smith added 127 yards rushing.
Higgins throws for 4 TDs, Louisiana Tech downs UTSA 63-35
RUSTON, La. (AP) — Ryan Higgins passed for 293 yards and four touchdowns, Carlos Henderson accounted for three TDs and Louisiana Tech ran away from Texas San Antonio 63-35 on Saturday to win its seventh-straight game and complete its first unbeaten season at home since 2001.
Henderson returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a score and Jarred Craft returned a fourth-quarter onside kick 45 yards for a TD. Henderson also scored on a 14-yard run and he caught a 6-yard TD pass.
Area colleges: Louisiana Tech routs Rice; HBU snaps skid
RUSTON, La. - Ryan Higgins threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, Trent Taylor had seven catches for 131 yards to become Louisiana Tech's career leader in receptions, and the Bulldogs beat Rice 61-16 on Saturday night to become bowl eligible.
Louisiana Tech wins C-USA showdown with FIU, 44-24
MIAMI (AP) — Carlos Henderson's 92-yard kickoff return and a big interception by Xavier Woods helped Louisiana Tech blunt Florida International comebacks and take a 44-24 victory Saturday night.
After FIU's Alex McGough hit Thomas Owens for a 6-yard pass to get within 37-24 with 6:14 left, Henderson took the ensuing kickoff the distance. After FIU got within 10 in the third quarter, Woods' 45-yard return to the FIU 2 set up a score.
Higgins totals 3 TDs, Louisiana Tech tops UTEP 28-7
RUSTON, La. (AP) — Ryan Higgins passed for 191 yards and two touchdowns, rushed for 42 yards and another score, and Louisiana Tech beat UTEP 28-7 on Saturday night.
Higgins found Jarred Craft for a 17-yard score midway through the first quarter, then took the ball 22 yards to pay dirt later in the period to give Louisiana Tech (2-3, 1-1 Conference USA) a 14-0 lead.
Stockstill lifts Middle Tennessee past Louisiana Tech, 38-34
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Brent Stockstill fired a 23-yard pass to Ty Lee with 2:36 left to rally Middle Tennessee past Louisiana Tech, 38-34 in a Conference USA showdown Saturday night.
Ryan Higgins threw his second TD pass to Trent Taylor early in the third quarter to give the Bulldogs a 27-7 advantage.
Stockstill hit I'Tavius Mathers with a 37-yard scoring strike to start the comeback and Mathers ran for two more scores in the fourth quarter — the second giving the Blue Raiders 31-27 lead.
