NASCAR’s current youth movement pushing out veteran drivers
CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Jamie McMurray set a record at Charlotte Motor Speedway by winning his second career Cup Series start. Back for the 16th anniversary of that surprise trip to victory lane, McMurray is just another veteran at a career crossroads in NASCAR.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — It was about a year ago that Matt Kenseth thought he would be spending the year driving a school bus.
He is back to driving something with a little more horsepower.
Kenseth returned to NASCAR's top series on Friday when he climbed into the No. 6 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing, practicing and qualifying for Saturday night's race at Kansas Speedway. The former series champion agreed to a deal last month to split time in the car with Trevor Bayne the rest of the year.
Roush driver Bayne sharing races but says he’s healthy
TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Former Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne says his health isn't a factor in sharing seat time with Matt Kenseth.
He insists he's as fit as ever.
Kenseth was hired by Roush Fenway Racing this week to split races in the No. 6 Ford with Bayne, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2013.
Kenseth, a two-time Daytona 500 winner and former Cup champion, has been tasked with mentoring Bayne and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. while helping Roush get back to a consistently competitive level.
Matt Kenseth is returning to the NASCAR Cup Series to drive Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 6 car in select races this season, multiple outlets reported Monday night.
The Cambridge native will share the No. 6 Ford for the remainder of the 2018 season with Trevor Bayne, who has driven the car on a full-time basis since 2015 but will now move to part-time status rounding out the races Kenseth does not compete in.
A report on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio said Kenseth would be the primary driver.

On the final lap, Hamlin, who was beaten on the road course at Sonoma in June by Tony Stewart in a bang on the last turn, held a slim lead over Martin...
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (AP) — After creating the customary cloud of smoke before his third straight trip to victory lane at Watkins Glen International, Joey Logano was beaming.
