Knicks snap 8-game skid with 119-112 win over Lakers
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Knicks owner James Dolan stopped by the New York locker room to offer his congratulations and to bring the team together in a huddle. The players and coaches whooped and clapped in celebration of a skid-snapping victory.
The Knicks hope this resilient performance against the Lakers is a turning point in their trying season.
The Lakers just hope LeBron James feels better very soon.
Enes Kanter has 26 rebounds, Knicks top Grizzlies 103-98
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The entrance to the visitors' locker room was covered with soaked towels, ice cubes scattered across the wet floor, remnants of the successful return to Memphis for New York Knicks coach David Fizdale.
One year after Fizdale was fired by the Grizzlies, he returned with his Knicks on Sunday and left with a 103-98 victory. The win — New York's third straight — led to a celebration, Fizdale's team dousing him with water — and ice — as he entered the locker room after the game.
Burke scores 29, Knicks end 6-game, top Celtics 117-109
BOSTON (AP) — Boston coach Brad Stevens knows what is wrong with the Celtics. Plenty.
Trey Burke scored 29 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. had 21 and the New York Knicks snapped a six-game losing streak with a 117-109 victory over the surprisingly inconsistent Celtics on Wednesday night.
Noah Vonleh had 16 points and Enes Kanter finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for New York, which won for the fifth time in 19 games.
Tatum helps Celtics hold off Knicks
NEW YORK (AP) — Jayson Tatum had 24 points and 14 rebounds, and the Boston Celtics withstood his careless foul with 1.9 seconds left to beat the New York Knicks 103-101 on Saturday night.
New York — In his present, Trey Burke is never too far removed from his past. It's a virtual footrace; every time the past tries to catch up, the present moves two steps ahead.
Burke would like to keep it that way.
Even as he finished his postgame interviews after the New York Knicks lost to the Pistons last week at Madison Square Garden, Burke was planning to go watch the second half of Michigan's Final Four matchup with Loyola-Chicago — with Wolverines and Knicks teammate Tim Hardaway Jr.
New York — In the middle of the postgame media session in the New York Knicks locker room in Madison Square Garden, a loud yell came from the distance in the training room.
Trey Burke recognized the voice as Tim Hardaway Jr. and didn't flinch.
"I hear Tim, so something (good) is happening," Burke said.
Earlier this month, the Wizards were among a few teams yet to suffer a three-game losing streak this season, despite missing John Wall for 26 contests at that point.
Now, with Wall nearing a return, Washington has endured its second three-game skid in three weeks. The team has dropped from fourth to sixth in the fight for playoff position, with the Milwaukee Bucks and "60 Minutes" star Giannis Antetokounmpo breathing down its neck.
Wizards coach Scott Brooks wanted more urgency. Instead, he got more of the same.
A slow start and poor defense doomed the Wizards in a 101-97 loss Sunday to the New York Knicks, with Knicks point guard Trey Burke converting on an "and-1 opportunity" with under a minute left to secure the win.
Burke, Lee lead Knicks to 101-97 victory over Wizards
WASHINGTON (AP) — With the Washington Wizards still waiting for John Wall to return, they were beaten by the perennial All-Star's former backup.
Trey Burke scored 19 points in his first start in exactly three years, leading eight players in double figures as the New York Knicks sent Washington to a 101-97 defeat Sunday night.
Knicks end 9-game slide with win over Hornets
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks stopped their slide with an impressive performance on both sides of the court.
Especially in the third quarter.
Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 25 points, and the Knicks snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 124-101 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday night.
New York had five players in double figures in its highest scoring game of the season. Frank Ntilikina had 15 points, Trey Burke scored 14 and Troy Williams finished with 13.
Burke leads Knicks past Magic to end 8-game losing streak
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The New York Knicks got a season-high 26 points from Trey Burke and put up 120 playing without their All-Star.
Yet all they talked about was defense after breaking an eight-game losing streak with a 120-113 victory over the Orlando Magic on Thursday night.
"Our defense was pretty much the reason we won," said Burke, who came off the bench to hit 12 of 22 shots. "A lot of people look at the offensive end, but defense allowed our offense to get some good looks."
Knicks sign former lottery pick Trey Burke
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks have signed guard Trey Burke, a former lottery pick who had been playing with their G League team.
Burke was averaging 26.6 points for Westchester, second in the league when he was called up Sunday.
The point guard was the No. 9 overall selection in the 2013 NBA draft and was voted to the 2013-14 NBA All-Rookie first team while playing for Utah. He has averaged 10.6 points and 3.6 assists in 267 career games with the Jazz and Washington.
Burke scores 27 as Wizards beat Nets 118-95 to reach .500
WASHINGTON (AP) — Without Bradley Beal, Washington Wizards coach Scott Brooks was just hoping someone would put up double figures.
Olympics: Utah Jazz’s Rodney Hood gets a taste of USA preparation for Rio
Las Vegas • Rodney Hood’s work is done. The U.S. Olympic basketball is on its own, from here through Rio.
Hood spent four days this week practicing with and against the Olympians as a member of the USA Basketball Select Team. The experience is designed as preparation for the 12-man team and an audition for 24 other players — including Hood, the Jazz’s third-year wing player.
He’s in the system now, just as Jazz teammates Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors...
George Hill won’t have to fork over any extra cash to make sure he’s wearing the No. 3 jersey next season for the Utah Jazz.
As the NBA’s July moratorium lifted Thursday, the Jazz officially parted ways with point guard Trey Burke while bringing Hill into the fold.
And with two more veteran acquisitions pending, a young Jazz team that narrowly missed out on the playoffs last April has quickly become one of the darlings of the NBA offseason and an early pick to...
