MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Forrest Goodman, a longtime member of the Memphis football and men's basketball broadcast team, has died. He was 48.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Penny Hardaway says the NBA background of his Memphis coaching staff is creating a little jealousy among other coaches, putting a target on his own back in his first season with the Tigers.
Jackson helps No. 13 Ohio State beat High Point 82-64
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State overcame an early challenge and finished its nonconference schedule on a positive note.
C.J. Jackson scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half and Kaleb Wesson added 17 points as the No. 13 Buckeyes beat High Point 82-64 on Saturday.
Luther Muhammed had a career-high 15 points to help Ohio State (12-1) recover from a six-point deficit in the first half to get its sixth consecutive win.
Tubby Smith gets first win, High Point beats S. Dakota 60-56
BIMINI, Bahamas (AP) — Jahaad Proctor scored 18 points and coach Tubby Smith won his first game at High Point with a 60-56 victory over South Dakota in the first round of the inaugural Bimini Jam tournament on Friday night.
Magee with 19 leads Wofford past High Point 68-60
HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — Fletcher Magee scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds and Wofford beat High Point 68-60 on Saturday.
Magee was 7 of 13 from the field including five from distance for the Terriers (1-1). Storm Murphy added 15 points and three assists and Cameron Jackson had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Magee drained a pair of 3-pointers early in the first half to give Wofford a 15-10 lead and the Terriers led the rest of the way and had a 39-26 advantage at the break.
William & Mary spoils Smith’s debut at High Point, 79-69
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — Matt Milon hit a 3-pointer and knocked down a pair of free throws in the final minute as William & Mary held off High Point to win its season opener, 79-69 Wednesday night, spoiling the debut of Panthers alum Tubby Smith as the team's coach.
Smith, who played at High Point from 1969-73 and is already a member of the High Point Athletics Hall of Fame and three-time National Coach of the Year, spent the last two seasons as the coach of Memphis.
Parks, Martin, lead Memphis over UConn 73-49
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Mike Parks Jr. had a career-best night for Memphis, while Jeremiah Martin, the Tigers leading scorer, matched him in points and rebounds.
The result was an early lead that built to a runaway victory for the Tigers as Memphis defeated UConn 73-49 on Tuesday night.
Both Parks and Martin recorded 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Tigers. Parks' totals were career-highs in both categories, and the rebounds included five off the offensive glass.
Memphis pulls way to win father-son matchup over Loyola (Md)
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Jeremiah Martin tied his career high with 26 points, Raynere Thornton had a double-double and Memphis pulled away down the stretch to give coach Tubby Smith an 83-71 win over his son G.G., the Loyola-Maryland coach, on Saturday.
After the Greyhounds (2-9) took a 65-64 lead on a basket by Chuck Champion with 4:53 to go, the Tigers (9-3) took over scoring the next seven and turning that into a 15-2 run to lead by 12 with 1:08 remaining.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis has added Butch Pierre to its men's basketball staff as an assistant coach.
Pierre was an assistant head coach at North Carolina State last season. He previously spent eight seasons on Oklahoma State's staff and 11 seasons at LSU. He earned the title associate head coach at both schools.
He also has worked as an assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette (1989-96) and Charlotte (1996-97).
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis has added Southwest Mississippi Community College center Mike Parks Jr. to its roster.
Tigers coach Tubby Smith announced the signing of Parks on Wednesday.
Parks, who is 6-foot-9 and 270 pounds, averaged 8.9 points, 4 rebounds and 19.4 minutes for Southwest Mississippi this past season. He made 70.3 percent of his field-goal attempts.
Memphis adds junior-college forward Kyvon Davenport
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis has signed forward Kyvon Davenport out of Georgia Highlands College as the Tigers continue restocking their roster after losing their top three scorers from this season to transfers.
Davenport, who is 6-foot-8, averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3 blocks for Georgia Highlands this season. His 101 total blocks ranked fourth among National Junior College Athletic Association players.
Memphis signs junior-college guard Kareem Brewton
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis has signed guard Kareem Brewton from Eastern Florida State College as the Tigers attempt to rebuild their roster after their top three scorers from this season decided to transfer.
Brewton, who is 6-foot-2, averaged 19.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists this season for Eastern Florida State.
Memphis coach Tubby Smith says Brewton "is an all-around athlete, is an outstanding team player, and a guy who can defend."
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis athletic director Tom Bowen says he and coach Tubby Smith are "extremely optimistic about the future of our program" even though the Tigers' top three scorers this season are all transferring.
Bowen issued a statement Tuesday saying he had met with Smith "at length." Bowen said the rash of transfers "has been difficult to watch, (but) it has not surprised us."
Crawford says he’s leaving Memphis as graduate transfer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Guard Markel Crawford is the latest player to announce that he's transferring from Memphis.
Crawford told Memphis radio station WMFS-92.9 FM on Monday that he's leaving Memphis. Crawford said that he was on track to earn his degree in May and would be a graduate transfer, making him eligible to play for his new school this year.
Crawford, a 6-foot-5 guard from Memphis, averaged 12.8 points and 4.4 rebounds this season.
Lawson brothers leaving Memphis’ basketball program
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — K.J. Lawson and Dedric Lawson are leaving Memphis' program, which leaves the Tigers without two of their top three scorers and their top two rebounders from this season.
Memphis coach Tubby Smith said in a university statement that he learned Wednesday that the Lawson brothers were planning to ask for their release from the university. Smith said he was notified after meeting with the Lawsons and their parents.
High Point to name new basketball court for alum Tubby Smith
HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — High Point University will name the basketball court in its planned new arena after University of Memphis men's basketball head coach Tubby Smith and his wife Donna Smith, who met while they attended the school.
High Point said in a news release Monday that the couple is donating $1 million to support the new Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center.
Early returns mixed for familiar first-year coaches
The coaching carousel is a rite of late spring in college basketball, a chance for the next hot young coach to cash in on an unexpected March run or for more established faces to get a second (or third, or fourth) shot at turning around a floundering program.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Fueled by a better-late-than-never breakout game by Alvin Ellis III, Michigan State snapped into form after halftime of the Big Ten opener.
Still-developing Minnesota was left with a stinging defeat.
Ellis made two free throws with 10.6 seconds left in overtime to finish with a career-high 20 points and give Michigan State the lead, capping a 75-74 comeback victory by the Spartans over Minnesota on Tuesday after the Gophers led by 13 points at the break.
Saiz has 20 points, 16 rebounds in Ole Miss victory
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi coach Andy Kennedy leaned into the microphone at his postgame press conference, flashed a smile and whispered softly.
"Coaches aren't supposed to say this out loud, especially on a game this early in the season, but this was a must win for us," said Kennedy, after his Rebels defeated Memphis 85-77 on Saturday.
Lawson scores 35, Memphis beats Iowa 100-92
NICEVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Iowa's Peter Jok won a personal scoring duel with a career high 42 points while Memphis' Dedric Lawson put up 35, but Lawson's Tigers carried the day in a back-and-forth contest for third place in the Emerald Coast Classic.
Jeremiah Martin pitched in with 14 points and hit a pair of three-pointers that brought Memphis from behind and put the Tigers ahead to stay Saturday for a 100-92 win in the consolation game.
Bullock, Providence beat Memphis in Emerald Coast Classic
NICEVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Rodney Bullock scored 18 points and Emmitt Holt added 16 to lead Providence to a come-from-behind 60-51 victory over Memphis on Friday night in the semifinals of the Emerald Coast Classic.
The Friars (4-1) play No. 7 Virginia, a 74-41 winner over Iowa, on Saturday in the title game after the two losing teams square off for third place.
Providence coach Ed Cooley was magnanimous in victory, recalling that his Memphis counterpart, Tubby Smith, has been a longtime mentor.
