SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Trevor Williams and two relievers combined on a six-hitter, and the Pittsburgh Pirates blanked the San Francisco Giants 4-0 on Saturday night.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Capitals showed off their newly won Stanley Cup as part of a pregame ceremony Saturday before the Nationals met the San Francisco Giants.
Bryce Harper has his mind on bringing another piece of hardware to Washington by the end of the year.
"I think a World Series trophy would be pretty cool, too," the Nationals outfielder said.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Giants manager Bruce Bochy had no problem pulling his starting pitcher in the fourth inning. Cincinnati's Jim Riggleman hesitated to do the same thing and the Reds paid for it.
Pinch hitter Pablo Sandoval delivered a tying two-run single off Tyler Mahle, Andrew McCutchen drove in the go-ahead run with a grounder two batters later and the Giants beat the Reds 5-3 on Tuesday night.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The opener of the Dodgers-Giants weekend series scheduled for Friday night was rained out.

Saturday's game was also pushed back by two hours to a 3:05 p.m. PDT.
Giants edge Kershaw, Dodgers 1-0 on opening day
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Turns out, pitching wasn't a problem for the Giants on opening day.
With replacements in the starting and closing roles, San Francisco edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 Thursday behind Joe Panik's homer off Clayton Kershaw.
Kershaw, a three-time NL Cy Young Award winner, took his first loss in his franchise-record eighth consecutive opening day start.
Kershaw gets 8th opening day start for Dodgers vs Giants
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Clayton Kershaw will make his franchise-record eighth consecutive opening day start for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are aiming for a second straight World Series appearance with virtually the same roster as last year.
Kershaw takes the mound Thursday against the rival San Francisco Giants and Ty Blach, whose only opening day starts have been in the minors. Blach drew the assignment because of injuries to Madison Bumgarner and Jeff Samardzija.
Lefty Derek Holland joins Giants on minor league contract
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Veteran left-hander Derek Holland has signed a minor league deal with the San Francisco Giants.
Holland could compete for a job out of spring training with a rotation that has three set starters in Madison Bumgarner, Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija. There are two spots up for grabs, and manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that Ty Blach and Chris Stratton are the leading candidates to fill out those positions.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Buster Posey twice watched plays he was part of go to replay, first on a three-run homer that held up and then a stolen base. A rare stolen base for San Francisco's catcher, who now has five to move within one of his career high set last season.
He matched teammate Denard Span's five stolen bases.
"I told Span I'm tied with him now so he needs to step it up," Posey said.
Blach pitches, powers Giants to 11-2 win over A’s
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Ty Blach had a pretty good idea he had exceeded his teammates' wildest expectations of what he could do with a bat. The reaction he got from teammate Denard Span rounding third base sealed it.
"Denard's look in the on-deck circle, that was pretty funny, he was just kind of like 'Did you just do that?'" Blach said. "That was a great moment."

DETROIT (AP) — This wasn't an ideal matchup for the San Francisco Giants — a rookie lefty against a Detroit lineup full of powerful right-handed hitters.
Ty Blach was up to the challenge.
Blach took a shutout into the seventh inning, and the Giants held off a late Detroit rally in beating the Tigers 5-4 on Wednesday night. Blach allowed only three hits in the first six innings.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Jae-Gyun Hwang homered in his major league debut, a tiebreaking drive in the sixth inning that led the San Francisco Giants over Colorado 5-3 Wednesday and extended the Rockies' losing streak to a season-high eight games.
A 29-year-old who starred for South Korea's Lotte Giants, Hwang was brought up from Triple-A Sacramento before the game and inserted into the starting lineup at third base, batting fifth.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Ty Blach looked like Madison Bumgarner out there.
The rookie left-hander tossed his first career shutout and became the first pitcher in eight years to walk three times as the San Francisco Giants routed the skidding Philadelphia Phillies 10-0 on Friday night.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Giants left-hander Ty Blach finally got his first win of the season and was quick to spread the credit around.
There was the defense, particularly rookie Christian Arroyo, who made a pair of stellar plays in his first start at second base. A timely home run by Brandon Belt and an even more clutch tiebreaking hit from Brandon Crawford helped, too.
A look at what's happening all around the majors today:
John Hicks is off to an impressive start as a fill-in for injured Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera. Called up from Triple-A on Saturday morning, Hicks is 5 for 10 with a home run and six RBIs in two games. The 27-year-old made his major league debut in 2015 with Seattle and played once for the Tigers last year. He'll see some familiar faces when Felix Hernandez and the Mariners visit Comerica Park.
