Stars All-Star center Seguin signs $78.8M, 8-year extension
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Tyler Seguin showed up in Dallas five years ago mired in a Twitter-fed mess and vowing to show fans he could be one of the faces of the only NHL franchise in Texas.
The high-scoring forward has nearly 80 million ways to prove he pulled it off.
The Stars avoided any lingering questions about the future of Seguin by signing the five-time All-Star center to a $78.8 million, eight-year contract extension that goes through the 2026-27 season.
Tavares’ path to free agency is not yet a road for NHL stars
CHICAGO (AP) — When John Tavares decided to pass on signing an extension with the New York Islanders and test free agency, he became the most interesting man in hockey.
NHL stars don't ordinarily get to that point, and it led to Tavares going home to Toronto to sign a $77 million, seven-year contract with the Maple Leafs. Fellow players were watching closely, too, and wondering what the long-term impact might be.
The Dallas Stars brought back their Stanley Cup-winning coach and made a few somewhat pricey acquisitions last offseason.
With those significant changes, it looked like that fall from top seed in the Western Conference one season to missing the playoffs the next might just be a blip on the way to bigger things.
Instead, they fell agonizingly short of the postseason because of a late-season slump.
DALLAS (AP) — Tyler Seguin's first 40-goal season likely will end with the Dallas Stars missing the playoffs for the second straight year.
And the win that came with the high-scoring forward's personal milestone is a little too late for their dwindling postseason hopes.
