SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Josh Johnson ran 22 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns to help UL Monroe beat Texas State 24-14 on Thursday night.
Thomas leads Appalachian State past Texas State 38-7
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Zac Thomas passed for 247 yards and two touchdowns and Darrynton Evans added a pair of TD runs to propel Appalachian State to a 38-7 victory over Texas State on Saturday.
The Mountaineers (7-2, 5-1 Sun Belt Conference) jumped out to a 7-0 lead on their first possession when Thomas connected with Dominique Heath from the 8-yard line. The score was set up when Austin Exford recovered a Willie Jones III fumble at the Appalachian State 33 on the Bobcats' first series.
Jones return sparks Texas State past New Mexico State, 27-20
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Willie Jones III threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third as Texas State pulled away from New Mexico State, 27-20 in a Sun Belt Conference battle Saturday night.
A sophomore, Jones started the first four games for the Bobcats before being injured against UTSA. Freshman Tyler Vitt took over at quarterback for the last three games but is out with an injury.
Evans leads Louisiana-Monroe past Texas State 20-14
MONROE, La. (AP) — Caleb Evans threw a touchdown pass, Austin Vaughn added a TD run and Craig Ford kicked two field goals to propel Louisiana-Monroe to a 20-14 victory over Texas State in Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday.
Freshman quarterback Tyler Vitt scored on a 7-yard run to stake Texas State to a 7-0 first-quarter lead, but the Warhawks (4-4, 2-2 SBC) pulled even on Vaughn's 2-yard run on the ensuing possession.
Georgia Southern holds off Texas State 15-13
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Wesley Fields rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown, helping Georgia Southern beat Texas State 15-13 on Thursday night.
Georgia Southern led 15-0 before Texas State's second-half comeback.
Texas State got on the board with 59 seconds left in the third quarter. Keenen Brown ran for 61 yards before getting tripped up at the 4 and he punched it in on second-and-goal to pull to 15-7.
Louisiana-Lafayette stays perfect against Texas State, 42-27
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Elijah Mitchell ran for 191 yards and three touchdowns and Louisiana-Lafayette snapped a three-game losing streak by topping Texas State, 42-27 for its first Sun Belt victory of the season Saturday night.
The Ragin' Cajuns now are unbeaten in seven games all-time against Texas State and have outscored the Bobcats 103-40 in three games in San Marcos.
