TROY, Ala. (AP) — Tyrell Gumbs-Frater scored 20 on Thursday night and Coastal Carolina made a season-high 15 3-pointers on just 25 attempts to open the Sun Belt season with an 88-75 win over Troy.
Gumbs-Frater tied his career high with six made 3s on nine attempts for the Chanticleers (7-6). Zac Cuthbertson added 17 points, David Kralj scored 15, and Trevion Brown and Amidou Bamba had 11 points apiece.

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Zac Cuthbertson had 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Amidou Bamba added 14 points and 10 boards and Coastal Carolina never trailed in beating Division III Methodist 88-57 on Tuesday night.
David Kralj scored 11 points with three 3-pointers and Trevion Brown made five assists for the Chanticleer (4-3), who shot 57 percent and outrebounded Methodist 40-23.
McDonald scores 31, Northern Kentucky beats Coastal Carolina
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) — Drew McDonald had seven of his season-high 31 points in the final four minutes to help Northern Kentucky close out the NKU Basketball Classic with an 89-83 win over Coastal Carolina on Sunday night.
McDonald's layup with 1:26 left made it 84-76 for the Norse (6-0). The Chanticleers' David Kralj hit a 3-pointer at 1:09 to cut the deficit to five, but Northern Kentucky made 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute.
Jones helps Coastal Carolina pull away from Campbell, 85-75
BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Devante Jones scored 13 points in the final five minutes as Coastal Carolina pulled away late to beat Campbell in a non-conference battle between former Big South rivals Friday night.
The game was the first meeting since January of 2016 before the Chanticleers left the Big South for the Sun Belt Conference. Coastal Carolina now has won six of the last seven meetings between the schools, but Campbell leads in the all-time series, 22-20.
Cuthbertson, Coastal Carolina cruise past D-III Ferrum 91-47
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Zac Cuthbertson scored 18 points to lead six scorers into double figures as Coastal Carolina cruised to an easy 91-47 victory over Division III Ferrum in the season opener Tuesday night.
The Chanticleers muscled their way to the win, scoring more than half their points inside while shooting 52 percent from the field, knocking down 32 of 61 shots. They also held a commanding advantage on the boards, outrebounding Ferrum 39-24.
Appalachian State beats Coastal Carolina 76-67
BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Craig Hinton scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Appalachian State beat Coastal Carolina 76-67 on Saturday in a regular-season finale.
Hinton was 7 of 10 from the floor including three from distance for the Mountaineers (14-17, 9-9 Sun Belt Conference), who finish the regular season tied with Louisiana-Monroe for sixth place in the conference standings. Griffin Kinney added 18 points and eight rebounds, Ronshad Shabazz had 11 points and Tyrell Johnson 10.
Coastal Carolina hangs out to beat Arkansas State 88-81
JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Tyrell Gumbs-Frater drilled six from beyond the arc to total 24 points and lead Coastal Carolina to an 88-81 win over Arkansas State in Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday night.
Coastal Carolina jumped out to a 46-35 halftime advantage and pushed that to 57-44 before the Red Wolves gradually closed the gap to trail 61-58 following Connor Kern's 3 with 11:27 remaining. The Chanticleers charged back to extend their advantage to 77-68 with 5:11 left.
Coastal Carolina leads entire way in 65-60 victory
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Jaylen Shaw scored 15 points and Tyrell Gumbs-Frater added four 3-pointers and 14 points to help Coastal Carolina defeat Little Rock 65-60 on Thursday night.
The Chanticleers shot only 33 percent but made 23 of 34 free throws to 11 of 22 for the Trojans.
