PITTSBURGH (AP) — Negotiators for US Steel Corp. and the United Steelworkers have announced an agreement on four-year contracts covering thousands of employees around the country.

US Steel said the contracts cover about 14,000 union-represented employees. The union said its figure of 16,000 workers covered includes members laid off, on sick leave or on disability.
Cleveland-Cliffs, Steelworkers reach contract agreement
HIBBING, Minn. (AP) — Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. and the United Steelworkers have reached a tentative agreement on a new, four-year contract.
The Cleveland-based company and the union announced the deal Sunday. The proposed contract takes effect Monday and covers about 1,800 union workers at Cliffs' Tilden and Empire mines in Michigan and its United Taconite and Hibbing Taconite mines in Minnesota.

Charleroi woman gets home detention for stealing $21K from United Steelworkers
A Washington County woman has been sentenced to six months of home detention after pleading guilty to stealing more than $21,000 in United Steelworkers union funds, federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh said Wednesday.
Marianne Rodacy, 64, of Charleroi also must pay a $2,500 fine and is barred from working for a union for 13 years, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady said in a release.
Rodacy used to be the financial secretary for United Steelworkers Local 10-53-G.

Two government agencies have been investigating a fire burning under the Pittsburgh Glass Works Creighton plant for at least two months. The fire has released carbon monoxide and other chemicals into the facility.
Now owned by the Mexican company Vitro, the East Deer operation opened in 1883 as Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co.'s original glass plant, Works No. 1. The automotive glass factory will soon close, laying off 200 workers this year.
Man pleads guilty to charge for stealing from labor union
KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) — The secretary-treasurer for a Wallula labor union has pleaded guilty to stealing $40,000 from the organization over nine months.
The Tri-City Herald reported Monday that Jason A. Richard of Walla Walla pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court in Richland.
He worked as an employee and union officer for the United Steelworkers Local Union 12-990.
Idaho mining strike continues as negotiations falter

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — The United Steelworkers and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. have reached a tentative contract agreement that covers about 7,000 workers at five plants.
Goodyear says the five-year agreement covers workers at plants in Fayetteville, North Carolina; Akron, Ohio; Danville, Virginia; Gadsen, Alabama; and Topeka, Kansas.
