SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a tanker truck carrying about 8,000 gallons (30,283 liters) of fuel crashed on an interstate, erupting into flames near downtown Salt Lake City.

MANUA, Utah (AP) — A northern Utah town's police is accused of driving a police car while under the influence.
The Utah Highway Patrol says troopers arrested Shane Zilles late Tuesday after he allegedly failed a field sobriety conducted after troopers saw a Mantua Police Department car being driven at high speed without its emergency lights or siren activated and failing to stay in its lane.
Court records don't identify a defense attorney for Zilles who could comment on the allegation.
Speeding tractor-trailer flattens Utah restaurant, 3 injured
WELLINGTON, Utah (AP) — A speeding tractor-trailer skidded off a snow-slicked road Wednesday and crashed into a restaurant in a small Utah town, flattening the establishment and injuring 3 people, authorities said.
The truck was traveling too fast for conditions at about 6:30 a.m. when it went off a state highway that runs through the town of Wellington and struck the Los Jilbertos restaurant, which was open, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a statement.
Utah Highway Patrol: 3 critically injured in head-on crash
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Highway Patrol says three people were critically injured in a head-on crash.
The Highway Patrol says the crash occurred Tuesday morning on U.S. 40 near Strawberry Reservoir, which is 57 miles (92 kilometers) southeast of Salt Lake City.
Utah troopers report first arrest under new DUI threshold
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Highway Patrol troopers have made their first arrest under the state's new lowered DUI threshold.
Sgt. Nick Street says the Tuesday-morning arrest would have happened before the law went into effect, but the measure makes it more likely that the Wyoming man will face criminal charges.
He says the man was pulled over as he drove home from a rave party after a female passenger reported he had elbowed her in the face.
Utah troopers report no arrests at new lower DUI threshold
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah troopers say they have not yet arrested any drivers under the state's new lowered DUI threshold.
The Utah Highway Patrol said in a post on its Twitter account Tuesday that troopers on New Year's Eve arrested 11 people for DUI but none of them were at the new threshold of 0.05 percent or under the old threshold of 0.08 percent.
The Highway Patrol says one person arrested had a blood alcohol level of 0.257, which is five times the new limit.
No highway arrests made in first day under new Utah DUI law
TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (AP) — Utah Highway Patrol officials said Monday they didn't make any arrests under a lowered DUI threshold in the first 24 hours after the law took effect.
Eight DUI arrests were made, but all were over the old threshold of 0.08 percent blood-alcohol limit, Highway Patrol Col. Michael Rapich said.
The new threshold is 0.05 percent, the lowest in the United States.
The National Transportation Safety Board supports the new limit, saying it would save lives if adopted nationwide.
Utah Highway Patrol vehicles in collisions on slick highways
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Highway Patrol says two of its patrol vehicles were involved in collisions as winter weather produced slick conditions on highways Wednesday.
The Highway Patrol says neither crash involving its vehicles resulted in injury.
According to the Highway Patrol, at least one of the other vehicles was being driven too fast for conditions.

Dump truck rams into Utah laundromat
KAMAS, Utah (AP) — Authorities say two drivers were transported to a hospital after a dump truck crashed into a laundromat in Kamas.
KUTV reports the driver of a Jeep Liberty failed to stop at an intersection around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
At the same time, a dump truck was traveling and rammed into the side of the Jeep and pushed it off to the right shoulder.
Police officer injured while on ride-along with Utah trooper
MURRAY, Utah (AP) — The Utah Highway Patrol says a Kaysville police officer was injured Tuesday morning while on a ride-along with a trooper on a freeway in the Salt Lake City area.
The Highway Patrol says the Kaysville officer suffered a leg injury that isn't life-threatening and reportedly is "doing well ... and able to walk around."
Utah trooper intercepts wrong-way driver on freeway
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Highway Patrol says a trooper successfully intercepted a wrong-way driver on a Salt Lake City-area freeway early Friday morning.
The Highway Patrol says the trooper had a minor injury and that using the interception technique disabled his patrol car while stopping the other vehicle and that the other driver is a DUI suspect who wasn't injured.
Woman dies after rollover on I-80 near Lambs Canyon junction
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Highway Patrol says a 19-year-old woman is dead after a rollover crash on Interstate 80 near Lambs Canyon junction.
They say the accident occurred before 1 a.m. Sunday.
Highway Patrol officials have identified the victim as Sofiea Maya-Flores.
Passenger stops Utah Greyhound bus after driver passes out
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Greyhound bus passenger got behind the wheel and steered the bus to safety after the driver began passing out on a Utah highway Friday morning, police said.
Everette Elliott, 49, took over as the driver suffered a medical problem on Interstate 15 south of Salt Lake City, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
5 of the 6 killed in Utah highway crash were from Honduras
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Five of the six men killed last week when a dump truck collided with a pickup truck on a Utah highway were from Honduras, authorities said Monday.
Utah authorities are coordinating with Honduran consular officials to inform the victim's families before making their identities public, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Street.
They were killed Friday when a dump truck driven by 41-year-old Jamie Don McKenzie crossed a median and hit the oncoming pickup south of Park City.
Utah truck driver is jailed without bond after crash kills 6
HEBER, Utah (AP) — A man suspected of driving under the influence remained jailed without bond Sunday in Utah after a crash killed six men in a pickup truck, authorities said.
Jamie Don McKenzie, 41, was being held at Wasatch County Jail for investigation of six counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of driving under the influence causing serious injury as well as allegations involving open containers, reckless driving and speeding, authorities said.

Man walking on Heber City highway is killed by tanker truck
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a man walking on a highway near Heber City is dead after being struck by an oil tanker truck.
Utah Highway Patrol officials say the fatal accident occurred around 3 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 40 just north of Heber City.
They say a man walking in the travel lane near the right edge of the road and was struck by the semi-truck.
Utah board grants parole for lifer who killed state trooper
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man convicted of killing a Utah highway Patrol trooper in 1993 has been granted release on parole next March when he'll have served nearly 27 years of his life sentence.
The parole board announced Friday approval of parole for 43-year-old Jason Scott Pearson who said during a July hearing he was sorry for being "a coward" when he fatally shot Trooper Dennis "Dee" Lund in Emery County during a pursuit after Pearson and a friend stole gas.

BOUNTIFUL, Utah (AP) — Authorities say three people are dead following a wrong-way crash on Interstate 15 in a Salt Lake City suburb early Friday morning.
The Utah Highway Patrol says a pickup traveling north entered southbound lanes in Bountiful and collided with a car, killing the pickup's driver and a man and a woman in the car.
Utah man dies after falling out of Jeep during hunting trip
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Highway Patrol says a Utah man died after falling out the back of a moving Jeep during a hunting trip.
Utah Highway Patrol says 28-year-old Nicholas J. Demas was standing on a homemade rack on the back of the Jeep with another man on Monday when a strap attached to the roll cage of the vehicle broke.
Officials say Demas fell from the vehicle and hit his head on the pavement.

Authorities: 8-year-old boy killed in van crash near Parowan
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Highway Patrol officials say an 8-year-old boy has been killed after he was ejected from a van involved in a crash near Parowan.
The name of the boy wasn't immediately released by authorities.
UHP troopers say the crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 15 after the van's driver lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason and it collided with a sedan.
