Broncos keep losing big games, key players
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Eleven months ago, Case Keenum engineered the "Minneapolis Miracle." Now, he's one of the architects of the "Denver Debacle."

Broncos assured of 1st consecutive losing years since 71-72
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — While the Oakland Raiders celebrated with their fans following the possible final game at the Coliseum, the Denver Broncos trudged off the field with a lowly distinction.
For the first time in 46 years, the Broncos are losers in back-to-back seasons.
Now the big question following a 27-14 loss to the Raiders on Monday night that provided Denver's ninth defeat of the season is whether the two down years will cost coach Vance Joseph his job.
Broncos’ Joseph has made strong case to stick around
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Across the airwaves, the consensus is that Vance Joseph is about to coach his final two games in Denver.
Although the Broncos (6-8) must beat the Raiders and Chargers to avoid their first back-to-back losing seasons in 46 years, there's a strong case for John Elway to keep the coach who's won just 11 of 30 games since taking over a team that was a year removed from a Super Bowl title.

"I've spoken to John. That's a private conversation, obviously. But, to be honest, that's the least of my worries, an article," Joseph said.
Keenum reverts to careless ways after coach’s jab
DENVER (AP) — Case Keenum wasn't the cautious quarterback his coach complained about last week. Instead, he was the careless one who made Broncos fans wonder why John Elway had spent $36 million to replace the much cheaper and just as effective Trevor Siemian.
The Broncos (6-8) were eliminated from playoff contention Sunday, marking the third consecutive year they've failed to reach the playoffs since winning Super Bowl 50.
Broncos lose another heart-breaker in fourth quarter
DENVER (AP) — Even down to one healthy cornerback, another spitting up blood, three sidelined with injuries and one ejected for throwing a punch, Vance Joseph trusted his defense more than his offense.
The Denver Broncos' embattled second-year coach sent kicker Brandon McManus out for a field goal rather than go for it on fourth-and-1 from the Cleveland 6 with the Broncos trailing by four points and less than five minutes remaining.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The Broncos looked beleaguered, beat up and undermanned against the lowly San Francisco 49ers.
Overmatched, too? You bet.
Short-handed they were, and it sure showed. Yet on this day, George Kittle might have been too much even if Denver had been at full strength.
Case Keenum got going too late in a 20-14 loss to San Francisco on Sunday, four days after top target Emmanuel Sanders went down with a torn left Achilles tendon in practice Wednesday.
2 newcomers set to play for Denver on Sunday
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos didn't bring cornerback Jamar Taylor and wide receiver Andre Holmes on board this week just to fill in at practice.

Broncos’ win takes Vance Joseph off hook for non-challenge
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Vance Joseph's decision to tuck his red challenge flag back into his pants pocket loomed large until the Denver Broncos pulled off a last-second win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Still, the failed 2-point conversion early in the fourth quarter of Denver's 23-22 last-second win highlighted a loophole in the NFL rule book that Denver's coach said Monday he'd like to see closed.
McManus’ FG as time expires lifts Broncos over Chargers
CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Denver had lost six of their last seven going into Sunday's game against Los Angeles, but Chargers coach Anthony Lynn kept warning everyone that the Broncos were dangerous because they had been in most of their games until the final minute.
Lynn's words became prophetic as Brandon McManus kicked a last-second 34-yard field goal to give the Broncos a 23-22 win and snap the Chargers' six-game winning streak.
When things go sour in the NFL, QBs often are changed
When things go sour, an NFL team's fan base often points to two people: the guy calling plays on the sideline, and the man behind center trying to execute them.
As we get deeper into the 2018 schedule, the futures of some coaches could be tied to how their quarterbacks have struggled — or outright flopped.
Doug Marrone and Blake Bortles in Jacksonville? Perhaps.
Joseph’s job safe for now as Broncos stumble again
DENVER (AP) — Vance Joseph keeps losing games but not his locker room.
That's why Denver Broncos general manager John Elway didn't fire his coach at the bye like so many fans were suggesting.
Despite Joseph's 8-17 mark in Denver and a 3-6 start for the second straight season, Elway is encouraged by the growth he sees in the coach he contemplated firing last year and in the fight he sees in his scrappy team this year.

Chiefs’ Mahomes just as dangerous outside pocket as inside
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Most coaches assume good things will happen when their defense generates enough pressure on an opposing quarterback that he must flee the pocket — a sack, an incomplete pass, a short run at worst.
Broncos coach Vance Joseph has a very different feeling when Patrick Mahomes goes on the run.
Just eight games into his professional career, the Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback has already earned a reputation for being just as good outside the pocket as inside it.
Broncos cut Chad Kelly a day after trespassing arrest
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Chad Kelly's short stint as the Denver Broncos' backup quarterback is over, and his former teammates and ex-coaches are trying to ignore the distraction of his dismissal while keeping him in their thoughts.

Broncos reverse the script, can they keep it up?
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos will try to replicate their energy and emotion from their 45-10 blowout of the Arizona Cardinals so they don't fall into the same morass they did the last time they ran up the score on an overwhelmed opponent.
They walloped the Dallas Cowboys 42-17 in Week 2 last season.
Lots of Broncos fans on hand to watch rout of Cardinals
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — There were a lot of orange-clad Denver fans in the stands in Arizona.

Broncos, Cardinals in Thursday matchup of struggling teams
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals can't run the football. The Denver Broncos can't stop the run.
So maybe the ground game will be the deciding factor when these two struggling teams meet on Thursday night.
"I'll tell you this - and I'm a firm believer in this - stopping the run and running the football allows a team to control the game depending on who is doing that the best," Broncos coach Vance Joseph said.

Scuffling cornerback Roby keeps starting job
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Bradley Roby's poor play against the Jets and failure to promptly call in sick the next day didn't cost the struggling Denver Broncos cornerback his starting job.
"Right now, he is the starter, yes," coach Vance Joseph said Wednesday.
Joseph also said he won't be taking away Joe Woods' play-calling duties, either, when the Broncos (2-3) host the Los Angeles Rams (5-0) this weekend.
"Joe's the coordinator," Joseph said. "So, he's calling the plays."
