CHENDU, China (AP) — Second-seeded Hyeon Chung and fourth-seeded Adrian Mannarino both lost Wednesday at the Chengdu Open.
Canadian lucky loser Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Chung 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-4, while Malek Jaziri upset Mannarino 6-3, 7-6 (5).
Auger-Aliassime saved five of eight break points in the match.
Germany one win away from Hopman Cup final vs Switzerland
PERTH, Australia (AP) — Two-time Grand Slam singles champion Angelique Kerber beat Australia's Daria Gavrilova 6-1, 6-2 to put Germany one win away from a Hopman Cup final against Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic of Switzerland.
Alexander Zverev played Australia's Thanasi Kokkinakis in men's singles later Friday. A win by Zverev would clinch a spot in the final Saturday at Perth Arena against the Swiss pair.

PERTH, Australia (AP) — Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber gave Germany its second consecutive win at the Hopman Cup mixed teams tennis tournament with singles victories Wednesday over Canadians Vasek Pospisil and Eugenie Bouchard.
No. 4-ranked Zverev beat Pospisil 6-4, 6-2 and Kerber, the 2016 Australian Open and U.S. Open champion, defeated Bouchard 6-1, 6-3. Germany also won the Fast4 mixed doubles 4-3, 4-3.
Australia beat Canada to open Hopman Cup campaign
PERTH, Australia (AP) — Daria Gavrilova and Thanasi Kokkinakis each won their singles matches to give Australia a perfect start to its mixed team Hopman Cup campaign against Canada at Perth Arena on Sunday.
Gavrilova claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win over Eugenie Bouchard, before Kokkinakis wrapped up the Group A tie for Australia by beating world No.108 Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 3-6. 6-3 in the men's singles rubber.
Roger Federer back for Switzerland at Hopman Cup team event
PERTH, Australia (AP) — Roger Federer will return to partner Belinda Bendic for Switzerland at the Hopman Cup, while Japan will make its first appearance in 16 years at the international mixed team event.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Daniil Medvedev fought off a match point with a 129-mph ace during a third-set tiebreak and beat Reilly Opelka to advance to the second round of the Citi Open.
Medvedev, of Russia, twisted his ankle on the final point before the tiebreak, but shook off the pain to defeat the American 6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-6 (6) in 2 hours, 26 minutes on Monday night. He will next face 14th-seeded American Steve Johnson.
John Isner advances to Atlanta Open quarterfinals
ATLANTA (AP) — Second-seeded John Isner beat Canada's Vasek Pospisil 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday night in the 6-foot-10 former University of Georgia star's opening match in the BB&T Atlanta Open.
Coming off a victory Sunday in the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Rhode Island, Isner is seeking his fourth Atlanta title in five seasons. He lost to Nick Kyrgios in the final last year.
Georgia Tech’s Eubanks advances past Fritz at Atlanta Open
Georgia Tech senior Christopher Eubanks made the most of his wild-card entry into the Atlanta Open, earning an opening-round 7-6, 6-4 win over fellow American Taylor Fritz on Tuesday.
Eubanks, the two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, held serve throughout the match — winning the first set 7-5 in a tiebreak and then earning an early break in the second before closing out the match on his serve.

EASTBOURNE, England (AP) — Novak Djokovic downplayed his chances of capturing a fourth Wimbledon title after winning his first match on grass this year at the Eastbourne International on Wednesday.

Tsonga returns from injury with win at Shanghai Masters
SHANGHAI (AP) — Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won for the first time since retiring from his quarterfinal match at the U.S. Open, beating Florian Mayer 6-3, 6-2 Monday in the opening round of the Shanghai Masters.
Tsonga, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the Shanghai final last year, had 12 aces against Mayer and saved all five break points he faced.
