NUREMBERG, Germany (AP) — Sorana Cirstea rallied to defeat home favorite Andrea Petkovic 2-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5) in the first round of the Nuremberg Cup on Tuesday.
Petkovic was 2-0 up in the second set, but the sixth-seeded Romanian fought back and won the last four points in the tiebreaker to clinch the victory after 2 hours, 45 minutes.
Cirstea next faces American Madison Brengle, who defeated compatriot Varvara Lepchenko 6-1, 6-3 on Sunday.
Kvitova dominates in her Bank of the West Classic debut
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova eased into the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kateryna Bondarenko in her Bank of the West Classic debut on Thursday.
Kvitova, a No. 2 seed, will take on eighth-seeded American CiCi Bellis, a 7-6 (3), 6-2 winner over Veronica Cepede Royg.

Second-seeded Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic reached her first French Open quarterfinal by coming back to edge 97th-ranked Veronica Cepede Royg of Paraguay 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Pliskova was the runner-up at last year's U.S. Open. But she had never been past the second round in five previous appearances at Roland Garros.

Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth for close to three hours until Rogers prevailed 6-7 (1), 6-3, 7-6 (6) over the Paraguayan on Tuesday in front of a hometown crowd. The match carried over from Monday after rain halted play with Rogers trailing.
