As AB Turns; Brown says he’s upset Steelers are losing
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The chorus of "The Storm Is Over" by gospel singer Kirk Franklin played as Antonio Brown approached his locker on Thursday, an intentionally apt choice by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker/DJ Vince Williams to address the latest bit of drama surrounding his superstar teammate.
LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — Tyler Matakevich wants to prove he can handle the job. Jon Bostic just wants to be on the field.
Matakevich and Bostic are competing for Pittsburgh's opening at inside linebacker after the Steelers did not use a draft pick on the position. The winner gets to start alongside veteran Vince Williams and an opportunity to help fill the massive void left by Ryan Shazier, who is out for the season while recovering from spinal stabilization surgery.
LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — The theatrics came from all the usual suspects.
So did the silence.
Antonio Brown, just weeks after wondering aloud why he receives so much attention, arrived in a helicopter with his family in tow not far from a Nike-sponsored bus emblazed with his latest hashtag "Destroy Doubt" splashed above the front.
Steelers eye defensive depth as draft wraps up
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers will try to add some defensive depth over the final four rounds of the NFL draft.
The AFC North champions spent three picks on offensive help during the second and third rounds, taking wide receiver James Washington, quarterback Mason Rudolph and offensive lineman Chukwuma Okorafor.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are still in need of help at inside linebacker heading into the second day of the NFL draft.
While Pro Bowler Ryan Shazier took his first public steps since injuring his spine last December when he walked across the draft stage during the first round, Shazier has already been ruled out for the 2018 season.
The Steelers have veteran Vince Williams at one spot and signed Jon Bostic for depth in free agency but need an influx of elite talent.
Given Ryan Shazier's career-threatening injury and with Vince Williams beginning the final year of his contract, the Steelers begin the offseason with a shortage of long-term solutions at inside linebacker.
The position already is considered a point of emphasis for free agency in March and the NFL Draft in April, and the Steelers could add players from each pool of talent.
Four Downs: An inside look at key numbers in the Steelers-Jaguars matchup
The Steelers led the NFL in — and broke a franchise record for — sacks this season with 56. What might be most impressive is they did it while blitzing at a rate among the lowest in the league.
According to ESPN's NFL Matchup, for example, the Steelers blitzed just 14 percent of the time on third down, a figure it called "very low" and would rank as the lowest rate in the league for all downs.
Steelers close to team mark for sacks in a season
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Improved coverage in the Pittsburgh Steelers' secondary has allowed the defense an opportunity to make team history.
The Steelers have 50 sacks, which is five from the franchise record entering Sunday's regular-season finale against Cleveland.
"If you can get them to hold the ball a little bit and make them second-guess themselves by changing up the coverages and blitzes, then that really helps us," defensive coordinator Keith Butler said.
Steelers’ Williams adjusts with close friend Shazier injured
PITTSBURGH (AP) — It wasn't so much a conscious decision Vince Williams made to wear teammate Ryan Shazier's jersey during Steelers practice this week. And there wasn't anyone who compelled him to do it, either.
For Williams, donning the No. 50 of his close friend while he's in the hospital with a spinal injury just felt ... right.
Pittsburgh — Ryan Shazier's locker sat untouched in a corner of the Steelers locker room Wednesday save for one little piece: his yellow No. 50 practice jersey, which found its way into the hands and over the shoulders of good friend and fellow inside linebacker Vince Williams.

Steelers LB Vince Williams fitting right in in “Blitzburgh”
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The coaches at Florida State didn't ask Vince Williams to get after the quarterback during his career with Seminoles, so he didn't.
That doesn't mean the Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker didn't want to. It just wasn't part of the job.
It is now. Then again, Williams figures it kind of comes with the territory when you wear black-and-gold.
LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — Rookie running back James Conner left the Pittsburgh Steelers' first padded practice early with a shoulder injury.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Sunday the former University of Pittsburgh star was being evaluated. The third-round pick overcame lymphoma to become the ACC Player of the Year.
