BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) — A man charged in the slaying of a youth football coach who was gunned down in a school parking lot after a practice will remain jailed until his murder trial starts.
A judge made the ruling Friday, agreeing with Cumberland County prosecutors who cited the severity of the charges Will El-Bey faces. They also noted the 22-year-old Vineland man is accused of witness tampering.
Defense attorney Diane Ruberton had sought El-Bey's release, noting he has no criminal record.

Cumberland County prosecutors accuse 33-year-old Daniel Brennan with the strangulation murder of Courtney Allen, 24, in Vineland. Prosecutors said the two had a 2-year-old child together and Allen also was six months pregnant with Brennan's baby at the time of the murder.

The Cumberland County prosecutor's office says Bridgeton police responded to a report of shots just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday and found 44-year-old Erica McNair with a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to Inspira Medical Center Vineland and then to Cooper Medical Center, where she died.

The Cumberland County prosecutor's office says Vineland police officers were dispatched shortly before 11:30 a.m. Saturday after a report of an unknown man acting suspiciously on the front porch of a residence.

Authorities say the shooting happened in January. Vineland Police say they were told the victim and the two 15-year-old boys were duck hunting when a shotgun held by one of the teens accidentally fired, striking the victim. The Monroeville man involved in the shooting was shot in his right elbow.

Police: NJ teen steals school bus, crashes into parked car
VINELAND, N.J. (AP) — State police say a teenager stole a school bus and led officers on a chase before crashing in New Jersey.
The bus was reported stolen around 11:50 a.m. Sunday in Vineland. Authorities say troopers located the bus and tried to stop it before the 16-year-old hit a parked car and crashed into a guard rail.
Collection drive held to aid Puerto Rico kids, families

Patrol car hit by gunfire, but officer not injured
MILLVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a New Jersey police patrol car was hit by gunfire, but the officer inside wasn't hit and police say it doesn't appear that the car was targeted.
Millville police said shots were fired at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, and one broke the passenger's side front window and then the driver's side front window. The officer wasn't hit but was taken to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland for evaluation and released.
Poultry processing company hopes to open new facility
VINELAND, N.J. (AP) — A poultry processing company plans to open a new facility in New Jersey next year.
According to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority Board, Vineland Poultry has been approved for the Grow NJ program. The company will be awarded $2.2 million in tax credits over a 10-year term.
The company plans to use the former Vineland Kosher Poultry building.

BUENA, N.J. (AP) — Authorities have released the names of a man and a woman found shot to death inside a vehicle.
But it's still not clear what sparked the shooting in Buena.
Atlantic County prosecutors say 34-year-old Damon Jones, of Bridgeton, and 23-year-old Talisa Colon, of Vineland, were found in the vehicle around 1:20 a.m. Saturday when police responded to a report of shots fired on Wheat Road. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Police: Corrections workers die in apparent murder-suicide
BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) — Police say a man and a woman who were employed by the New Jersey Corrections Department died in an apparent murder-suicide in the home where they lived.
Officers found the bodies of the 43-year-old man, who was a senior investigator at Southern State Correction Facility, and 45-year-old woman, who was a senior guard at Bayside State Prison, in the Bridgeton home on Saturday night.
Corrections officer gets 5 years in contraband case
BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) — A former corrections officer has been sentenced to five years in prison for smuggling contraband for inmates.
Joshua Minguella was sentenced on Friday in Cumberland County.
The 32-year-old Vineland resident had pleaded guilty in May to one count of official misconduct.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A Vineland man has been convicted of vehicular homicide in a crash that killed a teenage soccer player and injured three other teens.
Prosecutors say 42-year-old Nicholas Garreffi was under the influence of Xanax when his pickup crossed the center line, striking a box truck and then hitting a car containing five Mainland Regional High School students who were going to compete in a charity tournament.
