Pitcher Josh Tomlin, Brewers agree to minor league deal
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Right-hander Josh Tomlin has agreed to a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, who hope he can follow Wade Miley's example of earning a job as a non-roster player and becoming part of their starting rotation.
If added to the 40-man roster, the 34-year-old right-hander would get a one-year contract paying $1.25 million. He would have a chance to earn $2.25 million in performance bonuses.
Wade Miley & Will Harris together again with Astros
HOUSTON (AP) — Asked what attracted him to the Houston Astros, Wade Miley responded with a laugh and said: "Will Harris."
The pair played together for Arizona in 2013 and 2014 and lived together on multiple occasions. They come small Louisiana towns north of New Orleans, about an hour apart. Miley grew up in Loranger and played college baseball at Southeastern Louisiana; Harris is from Slidell and went to LSU.
Wade Miley, Astros agree to $4.5 million, 1-year deal
HOUSTON (AP) — The Astros filled an opening in their rotation, agreeing to a $4.5 million, one-year contract with 32-year-old left-hander Wade Miley.
Miley could earn an additional $500,000 in performance bonuses under the deal announced Friday: $100,000 each for 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 starts, and $100,000 apiece for 25, 35, 45, 55 and 60 relief appearances.
Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole head a rotation also projected to include Collin McHugh and possibly Brad Peacock.

Take two: Miley back to NLCS hill, Brews try to deny Dodgers
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Wade Miley, take two.
And this time, the Milwaukee Brewers left-hander figures to seeing more than one batter in his next start in the NL Championship Series.

After Counsell uses Miley as decoy, Brewers ’pen cracks late
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wade Miley threw just five pitches in Game 5 of the NL Championship Series before Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell emerged from the Dodger Stadium dugout and abruptly removed his starter.
Oddly enough, five innings after this extraordinary bit of subterfuge, Counsell probably waited a bit too long to go to his bullpen again.
Bellinger hitting leadoff for Dodgers vs Brewers in Game 5
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Cody Bellinger is leading off for the Dodgers in Game 5 of the NL Championship Series on Wednesday, hours after his game-winning single pulled Los Angeles into a 2-all tie with Milwaukee in the best-of-seven series.
Bellinger singled home the winning run with two outs in the 13th inning of a 2-1 victory Tuesday night that lasted more than five hours. The Dodgers primarily have been using Chris Taylor in the leadoff spot.
Brewers’ bullpen showing cracks against Dodgers
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Told he had the day off after pitching three shutout innings in the NL Championship Series opener, hard-throwing Milwaukee left-hander Josh Hader wasn't expecting a call to the bullpen.
After watching Brewers relievers blow a late three-run lead in Game 2, Hader would have embraced back-to-back outings, high pitch count and all.
"Adrenaline can do a lot things," he said when asked if he could have pitched.
Turner homers as Dodgers beat Brewers 4-3 in NLCS Game 2
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Justin Turner and the Los Angeles Dodgers know all about performing in the postseason.
Backed into a tough spot Saturday, the red-headed slugger delivered once again.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal is out of the starting lineup for Game 2 of the NL Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

Brewers going with lefty Gio Gonzalez in Game 1 of NLCS
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Gio Gonzalez will start for the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell announced his rotation on Thursday. Gonzalez was 3-0 with a 2.13 ERA in five starts for the Brewers after being acquired in a deal with the Washington Nationals.
The Brewers have chosen Wade Miley to start in Game 2 on Saturday, meaning that Milwaukee will open the NLCS with two straight lefties.
Weekend Sports in Brief
DENVER (AP) — Wade Miley pitched masterfully into the fifth inning before turning it over to a lights-out Milwaukee bullpen, 38-year-old catcher Erik Kratz kept up his torrid hitting and the Brewers beat the Colorado Rockies 6-0 in Game 3 on a cool, misty Sunday to sweep their NL Division Series.
Brewers sweep Rockies, advance to 1st NLCS since 2011
DENVER (AP) — The 38-year-old journeyman catcher looked to his left and spotted his Milwaukee Brewers teammates spilling out of the dugout. Erik Kratz then looked straight ahead and saw his reliever standing alone.
So he took off for Josh Hader to give him, "the biggest hug. ... Because you celebrate all your celebrations. Because you never know if you're going to get another one," Kratz said.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Chris Iannetta made contact, all right.
He slammed his bat over his right knee, splitting it in half after a strikeout with the potential tying run at third base in the seventh inning.
Connecting with the ball? Not so much.
It was the same old story for the Colorado Rockies in Game 2 of the NL Division Series: Their power-laden lineup couldn't score runs.
