Whyte lifts Boston U. past Army, 61-59 in Patriot finale
WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — Walter Whyte turned a 3-point play with 11 seconds left in the game to lift Boston University to a 61-59 win at Army in the Patriot League regular season finale Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers clinched a first-round tournament bye with a win over Lafayette Wednesday, and if Lehigh loses to the Leopards, they would host a quarterfinal game on Thursday.
BU carries 2nd-half run to 81-65 win over Lafayette
BOSTON (AP) — Javante McCoy scored 21 points and Cedric Hankerson 17 and Boston University defeated Lafayette 81-65 on Wednesday.
The Terriers (13-15, 7-10 Patriot League) seized control of the game with a 17-2 run to start the second half, led 53-43 with 14:04 left and were never threatened. McCoy made a pair of 3-pointers and Hankerson and Walter Whyte each added 3s and BU was up 67-50 with 8:07 remaining.
Mahoney’s 27 pts leads Boston past Loyola (MD) 64-55
BOSTON (AP) — Max Mahoney scored 27 points on 12-of-14 shooting with seven rebounds and Boston University beat Loyola (MD) 64-55 on Wednesday night.
Mahoney — who was two off his career-high — made more than half the Terriers' 22 field goals. His 7-0 run gave BU a 45-39 lead with 11:28 remaining and Loyola never got closer than five points the rest of the way.
Bucknell whips BU 91-79, takes control of Patriot League
BOSTON (AP) — Stephen Brown scored 21 points and Bucknell avenged its last loss and opened a two-game lead atop the Patriot League with a 91-79 win over Boston University on Sunday.
Zach Thomas added 18 points and Nana Foulland 15 for the Bison (15-8, 9-1), who won their eighth straight since losing at home to the Terriers (11-10, 7-3). The winning streak is their longest since winning 12 straight in 2011-12.
Mahoney, Whyte help Boston U beat Lehigh 92-81
BOSTON (AP) — Max Mahoney had 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting and freshman Walter Whyte had his first career double-double to help Boston University beat Lehigh 92-81 on Monday night for coach Joe Jones' 200th career win.
Whyte tied his season high with 16 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds. Will Goff tied his career best with 17 points — all in the first half — and Tyler Scanlon also scored 17 with eight rebounds and five assists for BU (7-8, 3-1 Patriot League).
Hankerson propels Boston University past Army, 90-82
BOSTON (AP) — Cedric Hankerson hit five 3-pointers on his way to a season-high 33 points and Boston University turned back Army 90-82 in a Patriot League opener on Friday night.
Elon uses late run to top Boston U 77-69
BOSTON (AP) — Steven Santa Ana scored 19 points with five of Elon's 15 3-pointers and the Phoenix used a late 10-0 run to defeat Boston University 77-69 on Sunday.
Brian Dawkins and Dainan Swoope hit back-to-back 3-pointers to put Elon (7-4) up 69-63 with 4:20 to play. Two minutes later Santa Ana made a pair of free throws and Jack Anton's layup made it 74-63 with 1:21 to go.
Boston University beats Maine 78-69 in 103rd meeting
BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Tyler Scanlon and Will Goff each scored 13 points to help Boston University beat former conference-foe Maine 78-69 on Wednesday in the 103rd meeting.
The Terriers hold the edge in the series, 62-40, with the first game coming in the 1902-03 season.
Walter Whyte added 12 points for BU (1-3), which lost to UConn 85-66 last Sunday. Nick Havener grabbed 10 rebounds but was just 4-of-14 shooting from the field. Goff made four of BU's 11 3-pointers and Scanlon added three.
