Man dies after falling at Manoa Falls on Oahu
HONOLULU (AP) — A 27-year-old man has died after falling from near the top of a waterfall in a popular hiking area on Oahu, authorities said.
The man was found in the pool at the bottom of Manoa Falls on Monday morning after he fell more than 75 feet (23 meters).
Ailish Rincon, who was at the pool with her sister Rocio Crowley and brother-in-law Warren Crowley, witnessed the man's fall.
Part of state forest closed during improvement project
GRANBY, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut officials have temporarily closed part of a popular gorge and waterfall area in the Enders State Forest in Granby to allow for construction of an improvement project.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says the area around the gorge and waterfalls south of Route 219 will be closed to the public. The work is expected to be completed sometime in mid-2019.
Divers find body of hiker at waterfall
STEVENS PASS, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say divers found the body of a missing Chinese businessman who disappeared while hiking near a waterfall in the Cascade Mountains east of Seattle.
King County Sheriff's Sgt. Ryan Abbot says investigators believe the 50-year-old man fell Tuesday while visiting the Deception Falls area.
He says teams searched Tuesday and that divers on Wednesday found his body in a pool of water below the falls.

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say the search for a 19-year-old hiker missing in southwest Washington since last week has been suspended.
The Skamania County Sheriff's Office says rescue teams looking for Garrett Canada, of Kelso, found indications that he may have entered the water near or past a waterfall in the Lava Canyon area.
The Columbian newspaper reported that Canada was hiking with a friend who reporting him missing the evening of Oct. 15 after the two became separated.

BARTLETT, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire Fish and Game says two hikers are safe after they became lost while hiking in Bartlett and needed to be rescued.
Officials say 73-year-old Allen Burdette and his 60-year-old wife Roberta, of Aberdeen, Maryland, called 911 for help at about 7 p.m. Monday while they were hiking in the vicinity of Diana's Baths waterfalls in Bartlett. They became disoriented and ended up on the Moat Mountain Trail.

Man falls 250 feet to his death in New Hampshire
FRANCONIA, N.H. (AP) — Authorities say a Connecticut man who spent the evening camping atop a waterfall fell 250 feet (76 meters) to his death in New Hampshire.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department says 23-year-old Zachariah Peterson, of Jewett City, Connecticut, was killed just before midnight Saturday.
Authorities say Peterson and a friend were camping on Cannon Mountain, about a quarter mile along Tram Brook. Police say Peterson slipped and fell the entire length of the waterfall.

They are identified as 48-year-old Darren Mizokami and his 41-year-old wife Kimberly Tean Mizokami.

Hikers spotted 23-year-old Brian Lewinstein's body in the second pool of the waterfall on Thursday while hiking in southwestern Oregon.
Lewinstein fell on Aug. 12 after he crossed a safety fence to take a photo.

The Mariposa County coroner's office said 18-year-old Tomer Frankfurter of Jerusalem was near the top of Nevada Fall when he fell.
Assistant coroner Andrea Stewart said Thursday the cause of the fall on Wednesday was not immediately known, but it was considered an accident.

Firefighter rappels from bridge, rescues stranded dog
PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey firefighter rappelled from a bridge to rescue a dog stranded at the base of a waterfall.
Paterson firefighters were called to Great Falls on Sunday. Fire Capt. Scott Parkin made his way down to the animal and lured it in with food. Parkin put a net over the dog before it was lifted to safety.
The young pit bull was taken to Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland, where it's in stable condition.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The heart of Yosemite National Park, where throngs of tourists are awe-struck by cascading waterfalls and towering granite features like El Capitan and Half Dome, will be closed as firefighters try to corral a huge wildfire just to the west that has cast a smoky pall and threatened the park's forest, officials said Tuesday.
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A crack in rock that forced the closure of a popular waterfall tourist viewing area in Grand Teton National Park hasn't grown over the past week.
In addition, the National Park Service says the crack may have begun to expand last fall and it's uncertain when additional expansion occurred in recent months.
Officials have been monitoring the crack in a rock buttress above the Hidden Falls viewing area near Jenny Lake since July 10 when they first learned about it.
