BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 20-year-old Louisiana man accused of fatally shooting LSU basketball player Wayde Sims last fall has pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder.
Dyteon Simpson, of Baker, is accused of shooting Sims, also 20, in the head when Sims intervened in a fight to defend a friend outside a fraternity party just off Southern University's campus.

Sims was shot early Friday during a street fight caught on video near the Southern University campus.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU basketball player Wayde Sims has died after he was shot during a fight involving several men early Friday near the campus of another university in his hometown of Baton Rouge.
Sims, 20, was shot around 12:25 a.m. and died from his wounds at a hospital, Baton Rouge police Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. said.
The shooting happened near Southern University's A.W. Mumford Stadium, where homecoming festivities are taking place this weekend.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Brandon Sampson and Skylar Mays scored 20 points apiece as LSU defeated Samford 105-86 on Thursday night.
Sampson, who made 8 of 13 from the field, had a career-high seven assists and matched his career-best with eight rebounds. Mays, who was 6-of-11 shooting, made a career-best four 3-pointers.
Waters scores 27 to help LSU beat Alcorn State 99-59
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Freshman Tremont Waters scored 27 points to help LSU beat Alcorn State 99-59 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
Waters made nine of his 13 field-goal attempts, including 4-of-6 3-pointers. Waters also had six assists, five steals and five rebounds.
The Tigers scored the first nine points and never trailed. A 13-0 run late in the first half made it 48-27 and LSU led by double figures the rest of the way.
Smith scores 25 as Red Raiders beat LSU in Big 12/SEC match
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Zach Smith led Texas Tech with 25 points as the Red Raiders downed the LSU Tigers 77-64 in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Saturday.
Aaron Ross and Niem Stevenson each chipped in 15 points for the Red Raiders (15-6). Anthony Livingston totaled 12 points on four 3-pointers.
No. 25 Florida routs LSU 106-71
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Devin Robinson scored a career-high 24 points and No. 25 Florida made a school-record 19 3-pointers in a 106-71 victory over LSU on Wednesday night.
The Gators (15-5, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) had little problem in handing the Tigers their worst home defeat in 54 seasons. Florida took the lead for good at 11-8 on a 3-pointer by KeVaughn Allen less than 5 minutes into the game. The Gators had a double-digit lead before 9 minutes elapsed.
LSU beats Wofford 91-69 in season opener
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Duop Reath scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the second half as LSU rallied for a 91-69 victory against Wofford in the season opener for both teams Saturday.
The Tigers trailed the Terriers 43-39 at halftime. However, LSU dominated the second half by outscoring Wofford 52-26. After shooting 53 percent from the field (17 of 32) before halftime, the Terriers made just 21 percent of their field-goal attempts (7 of 33) in the final 20 minutes.
