COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — There wasn't much of a size difference between the biggest and smallest Texas A&M players on the court against Missouri on Saturday night, so Aggies coach Billy Kennedy changed his defensive strategy at halftime. The Aggies started switching screens at every position, and that helped them erase a 12-point, second-half deficit and beat the Tigers 68-59.
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — There was no celebration for Mississippi, but there was a sigh of relief.
Ole Miss snapped a four-game losing streak, wiping out a nine-point deficit in the second half Wednesday night, to defeat Texas A&M 75-71.
"It wasn't pretty, but we found a way," Mississippi coach Kermit Davis said. "We showed some toughness and contested shots in the last 10 minutes. We were desperate. We really needed this win."
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M coach Billy Kennedy figured the Aggies had nothing to lose in trying to snap a three-game losing streak, so he overhauled his defensive strategy entering Saturday's game against Kansas State.
"We took a chance and played zone the whole game, and I thought it disrupted Kansas State and took them out of their offense," Kennedy said. "I thought we'd have a hard time guarding them man to man."
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A long layoff didn't rattle the Aggies.
TJ Starks had 18 points and eight assists and Texas A&M won their third straight game with a 67-64 victory over Oregon State at the Dam City Classic on Saturday night.
Brandon Mahan, Wendell Mitchell and John Walker III each added 10 points for the Aggies (4-4), who hadn't played for nearly two weeks because of a cancelled game.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M welcomed the emergence of a newcomer while saying goodbye to a veteran on Monday night.
Wendell Mitchell, a juco transfer, scored a season-high 18 points and the Aggies brushed aside Northwestern State 80-59. Meantime A&M announced sophomore forward Isiah Jasey, who lettered for the Aggies last season, has left the program.
