KEWASKUM, Wis. (AP) — The West Bend school superintendent says three students were examined at a hospital after a school bus collided with another vehicle.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened Monday evening at an intersection in the Township of Kewaskum.
Wisconsin troops head to Florida to help hurricane recovery
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin National Guard medical evacuation unit is headed to Florida to help that state recover from Hurricane Michael.
The state Department of Military Affairs says Gov. Scott Walker received a request for assistance from Florida officials and issued an executive order Wednesday authorizing a National Guard call-up to help.
Wisconsin National Guard ready to help in hurricane response
WEST BEND, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin National Guard says it's prepared to assist in the response to Hurricane Florence.
The Guard says four of its West Bend-based Blackhawk helicopters and around 24 crew members left Wisconsin on Friday for Maryland, where they'll stand by in case civil authorities request their help.
The Blackhawks are medivac helicopters with hoist and medical treatment capabilities.
WEST BEND, Wis. (AP) — Lost for about 70 years, dog tags found with a metal detector in Colorado by a stranger have been returned to the family of a Washington County veteran.
Mary Seiser of West Bend was contacted Feb. 2 with an unexpected text message, which read, "Hi, my name is Major Zachariah Fike, U.S. Army, texting about your father, Franklin H. Schwamb. His dog tags were found 21 years ago at Camp Hale, Colorado, and the man who found them would like to return them to your family."
TRENTON, Wis. (AP) — A Trenton man has died after becoming trapped under a weed-cutting boat on a Washington County lake.
The sheriff's office says deputies were called to Wallace Lake about noon Wednesday after a resident saw the capsized boat about 50 yards off shore. The first deputy arriving at the scene went into the water and tried to free the man, but was unsuccessful.
WEST BEND, Wis. (AP) — Police investigating a sexual assault suspect discovered hundreds of snakes, mice and other small animals, including some that had died, in the foul-smelling basement of his southeastern Wisconsin home.
West Bend police say officers found 160 snakes, more than 250 mice, as well as geckos and frogs in the house Thursday. The snakes ranged from 6 inches to 2 feet (15 to 61 centimeters) in length.
Many were in poor health. Several dead snakes and mice were also removed.
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota's education secretary is leaving his post this summer to take a school superintendent's job in Wisconsin.
Don Kirkegaard said Tuesday he will step down as secretary of the South Dakota Department of Education in July. Kirkegaard says he has accepted a job as superintendent of schools for the West Bend School District in West Bend, Wisconsin.

JUNEAU — A 38-year-old Waupun woman is facing first-degree reckless homicide charges for giving a friend drugs that caused her death at a home in Fox Lake last summer.
Angeline Bruendl, 97, West Bend, entered her heavenly home Jan. 25, 2018, at The Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk.
Angeline was born Oct. 2, 1920, in the town of Calamus, to the late Raymond and Mary (nee Popa) Tadych and on Oct. 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to Alvin Bruendl at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Alvin preceded Angeline in death on April 16, 2012.

Woman caught carrying baby Jesus figurine arrested for theft
WEST BEND, Wis. (AP) — A woman carrying a baby Jesus figurine that had gone missing from a Nativity scene at a Wisconsin park has been arrested for theft.
Police in West Bend, Wisconsin, say an officer spotted a 21-year-old woman walking early Sunday with the figurine. When the officer attempted to stop and speak with her, she ran. The officer caught her and she was arrested on charges of theft and obstruction.
Beverly J. Wendlandt (nee Kluewer), 77, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, and her beloved husband, Ronald A. Wendlandt, 83, joined her in heaven Monday, Dec. 11, 2017. They were from West Bend.
Beverly was born March 15, 1940, in Watertown, to Harold and Elgardie (nee Huebner) Kluewer. Ronald was born Sept. 23, 1934, in Beaver Dam, to Alfred and Glorein (nee Oestreich) Wendlandt. Beverly and Ronald were married June 22, 1963, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashippun.
Walker calls special election to replace Gannon
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker has called a special election for Jan. 16 to replace state Rep. Bob Gannon who died in office on Oct. 3.
Walker announced the special election Wednesday. If more than two candidates run for the seat, there will be a primary on Dec. 19.
The Republican Gannon represented the 58th Assembly District in eastern Wisconsin. The district is entirely in Washington County and contains the city of West Bend and the villages of Richfield, Jackson and Slinger.

Reckless driving by victim leads to arrest of gas station robbers in Dodge County, police say
A woman stopped for reckless driving in West Bend early Tuesday morning led to the arrest of three people who allegedly robbed the woman at gunpoint near Lomira.
The three suspects from Milwaukee were stopped for a traffic violation by a Washington County Sheriff's Office deputy, with the deputy finding out the three were suspects in the robbery.
It started at about 1 a.m. at an Exxon gas station on Highway 41, the Dodge County Sheriff's Office said.
LOMIRA – Three people are in custody after a woman reported she was robbed while at the Exxon Gas Station in Lomira around 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, an officer from the West Bend Police Department pulled over the vehicle the 56-year-old woman was driving for reckless driving, and the woman told the police officer about being robbed.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State Rep. Bob Gannon, a West Bend Republican in his second term, has died.
Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke's aide, Alesha Potter, says Gannon's family informed Steineke that Gannon died Tuesday of natural causes. Gannon was 58.

Golden Gate Bridge daredevils charged with trespass
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Two would-be daredevils from Wisconsin are now criminal defendants for scaling the Golden Gate Bridge.
The Marin County district attorney on Thursday charged 21-year-old Thomas Rector and 18-year-old Peter Kurer with misdemeanor trespassing for climbing the bridge's north tower earlier this year.

Prep baseball: West Bend West wins WIAA summer baseball championship
West Bend West earned the 2017 WIAA state summer baseball championship with a 6-4 victory over Milwaukee Marquette on Saturday at Kapco Park in Mequon.
West Bend West (33-0) completed an undefeated season and won its fourth summer baseball title in 14 state appearances. The Spartans, Brookfield Central and Oak Creek have the most summer titles (four) since the WIAA began sponsoring summer baseball in 1965.
Prep baseball: Rain forces postponement of summer state title game until Saturday
Milwaukee Marquette and West Bend West advanced to the championship game of the WIAA state summer baseball tournament Friday at Kapco Field in Mequon.
But the championship final was postponed to 10:05 a.m. Saturday because of rain Friday night.
Marquette (27-7) will play West Bend West (32-0) in the title game after each won semifinal games earlier Friday.
