Westlake: 4Q Earnings Snapshot
HOUSTON (AP) _ Westlake Chemical Corp. (WLK) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter profit of $123 million.
On a per-share basis, the Houston-based company said it had net income of 95 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $1.02 per share.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.72 per share.

On a per-share basis, the Houston-based company said it had profit of $2.35.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.24 per share.
The chemical company posted revenue of $2.26 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.23 billion.

The Houston-based company said it had profit of $2.12 per share. Earnings, adjusted for amortization costs and costs related to mergers and acquisitions, were $2.45 per share.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.52 per share.
West Virginia chemical plant cited for safety violations
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A Northern Panhandle chemical plant where chlorine gas spilled from a leaking tank car has been cited for alleged workplace safety violations.
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration issued $25,500 in fines against Axiall Corp.'s Eagle Natrium LLC subsidiary. The Aug. 27 spill occurred at the company's New Martinsville plant.
A Booneville man has died in an industrial accident at a local pipe manufacturer. Michael Jason Mize, 39, was killed last Wednesday morning while working at North American Pipe in Booneville, said Prentiss County Coroner Greg Sparks. Mize was a maintenance employee at the plant. His body was transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Pearl for autopsy. The death remains under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. West Virginians sue chemical producer after chlorine leak
PROCTOR, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginians are suing one of the nation's largest chlorine producers after a cloud of chlorine gas leaked from a railcar inside a company chemical plant near their homes.
Attorney Jim Bordas says Saturday's chlorine leak at the Axiall Corp. plant forced residents from their homes and damaged their properties. The National Transportation Safety Board said Thursday that about 17,000 gallons of chlorine leaked out.
