Giants rookie DL B.J. Hill leads team in sacks with 5
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — There's been so much attention showered on halfback Saquon Barkley, it's easy to forget the New York Giants have been getting contributions from some other rookies.
Will Hernandez, the second-round pick, has started all 12 games at left guard and helped Barkley get within 46 yards of a 1,000-yard rushing season.
The guy who gets overlooked is defensive lineman B.J. Hill, the third-round pick out of North Carolina State who was the 69th player chosen in the draft.
Veteran John Greco starting at center for injured Halapio
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — After joining the New York Giants as a late-season addition, veteran offensive lineman John Greco came to training camp as somewhat of a bubble guy on the roster.
Both a guard and center, the 33-year-old seemed to be the odd guy out at both spots.
Jon Halapio and Brett Jones were the top centers, and rookie Will Hernandez and free-agent signee Patrick Omaneh were the top two guards. Greco and long-time starter John Jerry were fighting for a roster spot.

Success of Giants’ offense rests with line
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — There is no doubt the New York Giants have the talent at the skill positions to be a success on offense.
It starts with two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning at quarterback and extends to three-time Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and No. 2 overall draft pick Saquon Barkley at halfback. Sprinkle in receiver Sterling Shepard and second-year tight end Evan Engram and there is plenty of explosiveness for new coach Pat Shurmur's squad to put up some points.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants have signed rookie first-round pick running back Saquon Barkley to a contract.
The No. 2 overall selection from Penn State rushed for 3,843 yards and 43 touchdowns and caught 102 passes, eight for scores, in three seasons with the Nittany Lions. He had 5,538 total yards on 791 touches for averages of 7.0 yards per play and 145.7 yards per game.

Giants minicamp ends with helmet-swinging scuffle
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Pat Shurmur's first minicamp with the New York Giants nearly had an ugly ending when high-priced left tackle Nate Solder tweaked a knee after being bumped during a helmet-swinging scuffle between defensive tackle Damon Harrison and rookie guard Will Hernandez.
Solder, who signed a four-year, $62 million contract in March, walked away from the fight on the third and final day of the minicamp on Thursday and sat on the grass after Harrison and Hernandez were separated.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants have signed three of their six draft picks and 11 undrafted free agents.
The team announced the signings of guard Will Hernandez, the second-round pick from Texas-El Paso and linebacker Lorenzo Carter, the third-round choice from Georgia. The Giants also signed quarterback Kyle Lauletta, a fourth-round selection from Richmond.
Saquan Barkley, the No. 2 overall pick from Penn State, is among the three picks that remain unsigned.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — After providing No. 2 overall draft pick Saquon Barkley with a big road grader to open some holes for the running game, the New York Giants went to work to improve their pass rush and stop the run.
The Giants grabbed mammoth guard Will Hernandez of UTEP with the second pick of the second round on Friday night, a 345-pounder who moved into the Miners starting lineup as a redshirt freshman and started all 49 games at left guard.
