NEW YORK (AP) — The Jets have cut 18 players, including veteran linebackers David Bass and Kevin Minter, to pare their roster to 71.
New York has until 4 p.m. EDT on Saturday to reach the NFL's 53-man limit.
Safety Rontez Miles, on the physically unable to perform list, is expected to be moved to the regular-season PUP list and clear another spot.
Jets sign LB Brandon Copeland, re-sign DL Xavier Cooper
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Jets signed former Lions linebacker Brandon Copeland and re-signed defensive lineman Xavier Cooper on Monday.
Copeland missed last season after tearing a pectoral muscle during the preseason. He had 30 tackles and one forced fumble in 32 games the previous two seasons with the Lions.
The 26-year-old Copeland is expected to serve as a backup on defense and be a key part of the Jets' special teams unit.

Jets place rookie TE Leggett on IR, sign DL Cooper
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have placed rookie tight end Jordan Leggett on injured reserve and signed defensive lineman Xavier Cooper.
Leggett was a fifth-round draft pick out of Clemson this year. He was inactive for the first eight games after injuring a knee during the preseason. There was some hope that Leggett might be able to return soon, but his knee swelled after a recent practice.
49ers sign CB Leon Hall, DL Datone Jones
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have signed cornerback Leon Hall and defensive lineman Datone Jones to one-year deals.
The 49ers waived defensive lineman Xavier Cooper and released tight end Logan Paulsen on Tuesday to make room on the roster.
Hall spent a little more than a week with the 49ers earlier this month before being released after not playing a game.
Safeties Tartt, Ward active for 49ers vs. Rams
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Safeties Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward are active for the San Francisco 49ers despite being listed as questionable on the injury report.
Tartt is dealing with a neck injury and Ward has been bothered by a hamstring injury, but both will play against the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night. Starting strong safety Eric Reid is out with a knee injury.
Seahawks bench RB Eddie Lacy vs. 49ers
Eddie Lacy is a surprise inactive Sunday for Seattle a week after struggling to get going in the season opener against Green Bay.
Lacy was not listed on any injury report this week and was held to 3 yards on five carries in the opening loss to the Packers. Seattle is going with Thomas Rawls, Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise at running back.
Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman is active after being listed as questionable with a hamstring injury and sitting out two days of practice this week.
49ers claim DL Xavier Cooper off waivers from Cleveland
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have claimed defensive lineman Xavier Cooper off waivers from the Cleveland Browns.
The 49ers placed defensive lineman Ronald Blair on injured reserve Sunday to make room on the roster for Cooper. Blair has a broken hand and could be designated to return from injured reserve after missing at least eight weeks.
Cooper played 27 games the past two years with Cleveland and had 39 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks. He was waived Saturday.
Brock out: AP source says Browns to release QB Osweiler
CLEVELAND (AP) — Brock Osweiler's days with the Browns were numbered when the quarterback arrived in a trade.
They're now over.
Osweiler is being released by Cleveland, which will have to pay his $16 million guaranteed contract not to have him on their roster, a person familiar with the team's moves told The Associated Press on Friday.
