Brechting shot 9 for 12 from the floor. He added four blocks.
Tray Maddox Jr. had 17 points for Oakland (12-16, 8-7 Horizon League). Karmari Newman added 17 points. Xavier Hill-Mais had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the visitors.

Jalen Tate had 19 points and six assists for Northern Kentucky (20-6, 10-3 Horizon League). Dantez Walton added 15 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Sharpe had 11 points for the hosts.
Brechting scores 32 in Oakland’s win over Cleveland State
ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Brad Brechting scored 24 of his a career-high 32 points in the first half and Oakland never trailed in beating Cleveland State 83-68 on Saturday for the Vikings' 10th loss in 11 games.
Brechting made all 11 of his first-half shots, was 13-for-13 when he scored his 30th point and just missed on his 14th shot to finish on 14-of-15 shooting.

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Xavier Hill-Mais scored nine of his team-high 32 points in the final 10 minutes as Oakland came from 10 points down to beat Northern Kentucky, 76-74 in the Golden Grizzlies' Horizon League home opener Thursday night.
Oakland now has won five of its last six meetings with Northern Kentucky.
Newman’s 3-pointer lifts Oakland over Youngstown State 76-74
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Karmari Newman hit a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left and gave Oakland a 76-74 win over Youngstown State on Sunday.
Braden Norris kicked the ball out to Newman who made the winning shot with five seconds left on the shot clock. Devin Morgan missed from the circle on the other end as time ran out.

Georgia holds off Oakland comeback, wins 81-69
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Twice up by 17 points, Georgia was staring at a two-point lead against Oakland with five minutes to go and a nightmarish memory.
But the Bulldogs showed signs of progress, pulling away late for an 81-69 victory on Tuesday night. It was a reversal of Saturday's 76-74 loss to No. 20 Arizona State when the Bulldogs blew an 18-point lead.
Hill-Mais, Newman lead Oakland past Kalamazoo, 99-45
ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Xavier Hill-Mais and Karmari Newman each knocked down three 3-pointers and Oakland opened the season with a 99-45 rout of Division III Kalamazoo in an exhibition game Tuesday night.
The Golden Grizzlies got out to a fast start, racing to a 54-17 lead after 20 minutes and cruised to the finish.
Forward Xavier Hill-Mais played in all 34 games for Oakland last season.
He will sit this season out.
Coach Greg Kampe announced Monday night, following the team's final exhibition tuneup against Davenport, that Hill-Mais would use a redshirt for 2017-18.
Hayes gets 20, Oakland sets school record with 18 blocks
CHICAGO (AP) — Jalen Hayes scored 20 points and got a key block at the buzzer to lift Oakland past UIC for a 58-57 win Sunday.
It was one of a Horizon League record 18 blocked shots for the Golden Grizzlies. Xavier Hill-Mais had six, Isaiah Brock added five and Hayes finished with three. Oakland's previous single-game high was 14.
Walker scores 21, Oakland improves to 2-0 in Horizon League
ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Martez Walker scored 21 points, Jalen Hayes had 18 points and eight rebounds, and Oakland beat Northern Kentucky 76-65 on Saturday.
It was tied at 35 at halftime and Hayes made a basket at the 14:44 mark to give Oakland the first double-digit lead of the game for either team at 50-40. The Golden Grizzlies lead didn't drop below five points the rest of the way and their advantage hit 14 with 40 seconds left.
Oaklan routs Goshen 102-59 behind Walker’s 21 points
ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Martez Walker scored 18 of his 21 points in the first half, Sherron Dorsey-Walker added a career-high 20 points and Oakland routed Goshen 102-59 on Friday night to open the Great Alaska Shootout.
Up 56-30 at halftime, the Golden Grizzlies (3-0) opened the second half with a 9-1 run in which Dorsey-Walker hit a 3 and continued to pull away. All 11 Golden Grizzlies that played scored at least a field goal and freshman Isaiah Brock (12 points) had is first double-digit game.
