Zdeno Chara, Jaroslav Halak lead Bruins past Flyers, 3-0
BOSTON (AP) — Zdeno Chara scored twice, Jaroslav Halak stopped 26 shots and the Boston Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-0 on Thursday night.
Halak had his second shutout and 44th of his career.
Jake DeBrusk also scored to help the Bruins improve to 6-0-2 in their last eight against Philadelphia and 9-0-1 in the last 10 meetings in Boston. The Bruins improved to 4-0 at home, where they last played Oct. 13 in an 8-2 rout of the Detroit Red Wings.
Devils’ Hischier latest in line of skilled Swiss forwards
When Nico Hischier was born in 1999 in the mountainside town of Naters, exactly one Swiss born-and-trained player had been in the NHL — for exactly one forgettable game.
After Pauli Jaks tended goal for two periods in 1995, it took until 2001 for Reto Von Arx to become the first Swiss skater to make his NHL debut and many more years before the country had its first international hockey hero in Mark Streit.
Tkachuk, Hamilton lead Flames over Predators, 4-3
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — If the Flames were weary at the end of their long trip, it didn't show against the Predators.
Matthew Tkachuk and Dougie Hamilton each had a goal and an assist in Calgary's 4-3 victory over Nashville on Thursday night.
Mark Jankowski and Curtis Lazar also scored, and David Rittich made 29 saves. The Flames won two of their last three to finish 4-2 on their longest trip of the season.
Predators sign trio of defensemen to contract extensions
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Nashville Predators have signed a trio of defensemen to contract extensions — Yannick Weber, Matt Irwin and Anthony Bitetto.
The Predators announced the moves Tuesday.
They signed Weber to a two-year contract worth $650,000 in 2018-19 and $700,000 in 2019-20. The 29-year-old Weber has played 98 games since joining the Predators in July 2016.
Ehlers scores 2, Tanev nets winner as Jets top Predators 6-4
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Brandon Tanev's first goal in almost two months came at a perfect time for the Jets.
Tanev snapped a third-period tie with 1:26 left, sending Winnipeg to a 6-4 victory over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night.
Nikolaj Ehlers had two goals and Adam Lowry, Patrik Laine and Blake Wheeler also scored for the Jets. Tyler Myers added three assists and Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves.
Predators recall F Gaudreau, Weber placed on injured reserve
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Nashville Predators have recalled forward Frederick Gaudreau from the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals and placed defenseman Yannick Weber on injured reserve.
The Predators announced the moves Tuesday before hosting the Colorado Avalanche.
Predators sign Yannick Weber to one-year contract
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Nashville Predators have signed defenseman Yannick Weber to a one-year contract worth $650,000.
Webber played a career-high 73 games this season and had one goal and eight points.
The 28-year-old Weber has 23 goals and 55 assists in 347 NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks as well as Nashville. He also has 33 goals and 62 assists in 155 career AHL games with Hamilton and Utica. Weber is 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds.
Saros gets first career shutout as Predators beat Blues 4-0
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Juuse Saros made a strong case for more playing time Friday night.
The 21-year-old from Finland got his first career shutout, Filip Forsberg had a goal and an assist and the Nashville Predators beat the St. Louis Blues 4-0.
Saros made 25 saves and impressed Predators coach Peter Laviolette.
"He made some important saves throughout the game and he made some big saves at the end of the game," Laviolette said.
