NUREMBERG, Germany (AP) — Defending champion Kiki Bertens will face Czech qualifier Barbora Krejcikova in the final of the Nuremberg Cup.
The 254th-ranked Krejcikova upset Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 to end the Romanian's debut at the clay-court tournament, and Bertens advanced in the other semifinal on Friday when Misaki Doi became the sixth player to retire.
NUREMBERG, Germany (AP) — Yaroslava Shvedova became the latest player to retire from the Nuremberg Cup on Thursday, when she withdrew because of an injury after losing the first set of her quarterfinal to Misaki Doi of Japan 6-4.
Doi will meet defending champion Kiki Bertens in the semifinals. Bertens defeated fifth-seeded Alison Riske of the United States 6-4, 6-3.
Frantangelo upsets Tomic 6-2, 6-2 in BNP Paribas Open
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) — American Bjorn Fratangelo upset Australia's Bernard Tomic 6-2, 6-2 on Thursday in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open.
Ranked 112th, Fratangelo advanced to face No. 14 Tomas Berdych.
Adrian Mannarino outlasted Juan Monaco 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1, and Darian King topped Nikoloz Basilashvili 7-5, 7-5.
Daria Gavrilova through to 2nd round in St. Petersburg
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Daria Gavrilova followed up her Australian Open fourth-round effort by reaching the second round of the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy in beating Russian wild card Anna Kalinskaya 6-4, 7-5 on Monday.
The Australian had problems holding serve against Kalinskaya and was a break down in the second set. She will run into another Russian next, third-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Serena Williams overtakes Federer for most Slam match wins
NEW YORK (AP) — Serena Williams now owns more victories in Grand Slam matches than anyone else in tennis' Open era, surpassing Roger Federer with her 308th.

"I don't know. We'll see," Williams said during her on-court interview after reaching the U.S. Open quarterfinals by beating Yaroslava Shvedova 6-2, 6-3 on Monday.
