PROVO, Utah (AP) — TJ Haws made five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 30 points to lead BYU to an 85-66 victory over Portland State on Wednesday night.
BYU (8-4) has won two straight since snapping a three-game skid. Portland State (5-4) has lost two of its last four games.
Haws was 9 of 15 from the floor and had five assists. Yoeli Childs added 13 points, and Zac Seljaas and Connor Harding 11 apiece for the Cougars. Nick Emery scored five points in 24 minutes in his third game of the season.

Laterrance Reid's jumper brought Northwestern State within 20-19 before Connor Harding buried a 3-pointer, Childs threw down a dunk and Jashire Hardnett buried a 3 as part of an 8-0 BYU run. PROVO, Utah (AP) — TJ Haws scored a flurry of 3-point baskets early in the second half and finished with 23 points as BYU defeated Utah Valley 75-65 Friday night in the wake of an NCAA announcement the program was being hit with sanctions.
Yoeli Childs scored 20 points, including a putback after Utah Valley came within 65-61 late in the game. Zac Seljaas hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead and BYU put it away with five straight free throws.
BYU upends No. 20 Saint Mary’s in WCC semifinals
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Yoeli Childs and BYU saved their best game of the season for the right time.
Childs scored a career-high 33 points and the Cougars shot 61 percent from the field to beat No. 22 Saint Mary's 85-72 in Monday's West Coast Conference Tournament semifinals.
"It was a real good win for us," BYU coach Dave Rose said. "Tonight, they were on it. They shared the ball, made big shots, executed well. It was a well-played game on both sides."
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Elijah Bryant and Yoeli Childs combined to score 49 points and No. 3 seed BYU advanced to the West Coast Conference semifinals for the fifth straight year after posting an 85-79 win over sixth-seeded San Diego in a tournament quarterfinal Saturday at the Orleans Arena.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Ho hum, it's another West Coast Conference championship for Gonzaga.
Johnathan Williams scored 16 points, and the sixth-ranked Bulldogs clinched the conference title with a 79-65 victory over BYU on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs (27-4, 17-1) have won at least a share of 18 of the past 19 regular-season WCC championships, including each of the past six seasons.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Elijah Bryant and Yoeli Childs scored 15 points apiece and Brigham Young defeated Portland 72-60 on Thursday night.
Dalton Nixon added 14 points for the Cougars (22-8, 11-6 West Coast Conference) and Childs had 13 rebounds for his 14th double-double. The third-place Cougars close the regular season at home on Saturday against league-leader and No. 6 ranked Gonzaga.

Childs is an agile, athletic 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward who has made a huge jump from his freshman season. He’s scored in double figures in every game this season. He has 11 double-doubles.

Eli Scott, a freshman, totaled 19 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double and first in West Coast Conference play for the Lions (7-15, 2-9). Zafir Williams added 12 points off the bench on 5-of-6 shooting. LMU beat BYU (18-6, 7-4) for only the fifth time in 19 tries and lost at BYU 82-67 last month.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Elijah Bryant had 28 points on a nearly perfect shooting night on Saturday and BYU pulled away late to beat Pacific 80-65.
Bryant was 8 of 9 from both the field and the foul line, including hitting all four of his 3-point attempts, and grabbed seven rebounds for the Cougars (18-5, 7-3 West Coast Conference). BYU solidified its hold on third place in conference standings.

The BYU men’s basketball team has relied heavily on its rotation of seven players for most of the 2017-18 season: Yoeli Childs, Elijah Bryant, TJ Haws, Zac Seljaas Jahshire Hardnett, McKay Cannon and Luke Worthington.
For the last 11 games, the next player off the bench has been sophomore Payton Dastrup and he has had flashes where he has played well. He’s still just averaging 8.3 minutes per game, which means he’s not taking a lot of pressure off the other guys yet.

BYU now has won four straight after an upset loss at Pacific on Jan. 6.
While the BYU defense has definitely improved this season — the Cougars are second in the West Coast Conference in points allowed at 65.2 per game — it’s the offense that is putting up some insane numbers lately.
In the three games since Zac Seljaas moved into the starting lineup, BYU is 3-0, averaging 83 points, shooting 60 percent from the field and 51 percent from the 3-point line. The Cougars offensive efficiency has been spectacular, assisting on 74 percent on their made field goals.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Elijah Bryant scored 20 of his 29 points in the first half and BYU defeated Loyola Marymount 82-67 on Thursday night.
With Bryant making 7 of 9 shots, including 4 of his 5 3-pointers, the Cougars (16-4, 5-2 West Coast Conference) shot 67 percent and rolled to a 46-29 lead at halftime. Bryant had five points in an early 20-2 run that pushed the lead to 11 and the margin was in double figures for the last 14½ minutes. BYU opened the game making 11 of 13 shots.
The BYU men's basketball team will remain thin at the post for the rest of the season.
Cougar coach Dave Rose announced Wednesday that forwards Braiden Shaw and Ryan Andrus are out the remainder of the year due to injury.

Childs had 16 points, six rebounds and six assists in the first half when the Cougars built a 46-28 lead by shooting 19 of 24 (79 percent) from the field and outrebounding the Broncos 19-2.
BYU is still looking for that consistent third scorer, but the two it has can definitely carry the team on a given night.

BYU figured if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.
The Cougars have relied on 3-point shooting and an up-tempo attack during most of Dave Rose’s tenure, but this season BYU looks a lot more like Saint Mary’s in terms of defense and pace. When the two teams meet on Saturday afternoon in the Marriott Center, expect a lot of the same tactics from both teams.
Basketball is a team game, but sometimes individual performances are too good to ignore.
