PARIS (AP) — Pierre Berge, an influential French businessman, philanthropist and gay rights activist who helped build the fashion empire of his longtime lover Yves Saint Laurent, has died. He was 86.
A cultural celebrity in France in his own right, Berge was one of France's leading art patrons as well as serving as CEO of the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house and helping rescue Le Monde newspaper, among his many media investments.
Ferragamo completes creative transition with 3-designer team
MILAN (AP) — The Salvatore Ferragamo fashion house has named Guillaume Meilland as the new menswear designer, completing a three-person design team to lead the brand.
Ferragamo said Thursday that Meilland will present his first collection during the fall-winter 2017-2018 runway preview in January. Meilland most recently was the senior menswear designer at Lanvin and previously was the lead men's sportswear designer at Yves Saint Laurent.
Met Gala, exhibit to honor designer Rei Kawakubo
NEW YORK (AP) — The annual Met Gala, one of the most anticipated events in the fashion world, will honor designer Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons.
It will be the first time the gala, and the accompanying exhibit of the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute, will focus on a single living designer since 1983, when it was Yves Saint Laurent.
The May 1 gala will be chaired by Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams, as well as Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

PARIS (AP) — A huge crane in the colors of the French flag hoisted up a giant neon YSL logo above a construction site in the French capital, literally setting expectations high for this year's YSL show at Paris Fashion Week.
The decor announced that the grand debut from Saint Laurent's new designer Anthony Vaccarello on Tuesday night aimed to dramatically reconstruct the YSL aesthetic following the departure of Hedi Slimane.
