Redskins’ defense ready for Elliott-led Cowboys running game
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Even after Dak Prescott rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown last week, the Washington Redskins aren't zeroing in on stopping the Dallas Cowboys quarterback.
"We don't really care about him running," linebacker Zach Brown said. "Him running is not really our concern."
ASHBURN Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Thursday he was glad Zach Brown is staying put. The linebacker agreed to sign a three-year deal, worth up to $24 million.
But Gruden was starting to get worried.
"We were getting a little nervous," Gruden said. "Everybody was getting ready to sign and Zach was holding out on us, but we're glad to have Zach back. Obviously having him a second year in this system is very important. I think he'll be a lot more comfortable."
Zach Brown returns to Washington Redskins on three-year deal: Reports
The Washington Redskins have re-signed leading tackler Zach Brown to a three-year contract worth a maximum of $24 million, according to reports.
Brown, an inside linebacker, played 2017 on a one-year contract worth just $2.3 million in his first year in Washington. He started his NFL career with four seasons in Tennessee and one in Buffalo.

INDIANAPOLIS The Washington Redskins have offered linebacker Zach Brown a new contract.
Redskins senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams said Wednesday they are waiting to hear back from Brown's agents about the deal. Brown is perhaps the Redskins' top free agent following Kirk Cousins.
"We made Zach an offer a long time ago, and we're just waiting on Zach more than anything," Williams said. "We haven't heard anything, so it's basically up to them to start the negotiation for it."
Zach Brown took a meeting with the Oakland Raiders last offseason, touring the team's facilities in March 2017. A free agent, he left without a contract and didn't sign one until April.
The Washington Redskins agreed to a two-year contract Thursday with linebacker Mason Foster.
Foster, who spent the previous three seasons with Washington, re-signed with the Redskins months ahead of his scheduled free agency. Foster 28, appeared in five games for the Redskins this season, recording 31 tackles.
Foster's new deal is worth $4 million over the two years and can reach $7 million in incentives, according to Foster's agent.
No. 9 Wichita State crushes South Florida 95-57
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — His team had just been blown out, and South Florida coach Brian Gregory grabbed the stat sheet to make sure his players saw a small number that stood out to him.
Landry Shamet, the star guard for No. 9 Wichita State, took just two shots in a 95-57 victory on Sunday.
"Two shots the whole game," Gregory said. "He don't care. I mean, All-American, NBA first-round pick, and he doesn't care about any of that. That's because of the type of high-level program they've built."
No. 11 Wichita State beats Arkansas State 89-80
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — As No. 11 Wichita State went to the locker room for halftime Tuesday night, there were some dumbfounded looks. The Shockers had just allowed at least 50 first-half points for the third straight home game and trailed Arkansas State.

Five extra points for Vikings: How Adam Thielen got loose and Andrew Sendejo shook loose a potential touchdown

PHILADELPHIA Redskins linebacker Zach Brown went to blitz off the edge on a third-and-goal against the Philadelphia Eagles and saw running back Corey Clement escape into the flat. Brown tried to change directions, but by then, it was too late.
Despite being dragged down by two Redskins defenders, Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz delivered the perfect throw and Clement came down with the touchdown, right over Brown. At that point in the third quarter, the score put the Eagles up by two touchdowns.
ASHBURN, Virginia In a Week 1 30-17 win against the Washington Redskins, the Philadelphia Eagles converted 57 percent of their plays on third down, in large part due to quarterback Carson Wentz. Philadelphia has maintained their success with a league-leading 51 percent conversion rate on third down.
To stop the Eagles, the Redskins will have to make sure Wentz doesn't extend plays outside the pocket.
The Redskins meet the Eagles again Monday, this time at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Newcomers turn Redskins defense into a force early in season
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — When the Washington Redskins turned over almost half their starting defense from last season, coach Jay Gruden didn't know how it would go.
"You're never quite sure until they get here," Gruden said.
The Redskins' defensive newcomers are here, and so far they're spectacular.

Redskins’ Brown responds to trash talk from Eagles’ Johnson
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Redskins linebacker Zach Brown isn't taking too kindly to some trash talk from Eagles lineman Lane Johnson.
Philadelphia's starting right tackle wrote on The Players' Tribune that the Eagles are going to "whup" Washington in Week 1. Brown responded on Twitter when he was alerted to those comments.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — A career year wasn't enough to make Zach Brown in demand.
The inside linebacker ranked second in the NFL with 149 tackles, had four sacks and two forced fumbles, yet he knew he'd be moving on from Buffalo. The Bills' coaching change from Rex Ryan to Sean McDermott and shift from a 3-4 to a 4-3 defense put the writing on the wall, so Brown tested the free agent market.
New Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Manusky tells his players he doesn't have a crystal ball to always know the right play to call, yet before stepping on the field they have an idea what to expect.
"A lot of pressure," linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said. "You look at the install sheets for when we're installing our defense, you see a lot of lines going forward."
Redskins sign linebacker Zach Brown
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins have signed inside linebacker Zach Brown.
The team announced the deal Monday. Brown made the Pro Bowl last season playing for the Buffalo Bills when he had 149 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception.
Brown, 27, has 410 tackles in five NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans and Bills. He missed most of the 2014 season with a torn pectoral muscle and was a part-time player the next year before revitalizing his career in Buffalo.
MIAMI (AP) — Linebacker Kiko Alonso is staying in town, likely at a new position.
Alonso signed a contract extension with the Miami Dolphins through 2020, the team said Tuesday. The deal was announced as free agent linebacker Zach Brown concluded a two-day visit without reaching a contract agreement.
Linebacker was perhaps the weakest area on the Dolphins' defense in 2016, and last week they signed former Steelers middle linebacker Lawrence Timmons to a $12 million, two-year contract.
MIAMI (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says free agent linebacker Zach Brown is visiting with the Miami Dolphins.
The person confirmed the meeting to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because the Dolphins have not commented.
Brown led the Bills last season with 149 tackles. He also had four sacks, one interception, 11 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. The five-year veteran spent his first four seasons with the Titans.
AP source: LB Zach Brown to visit Raiders
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Free agent linebacker Zach Brown is visiting the Oakland Raiders as the team looks for an upgrade at the position, a person familiar with the visit told The Associated Press.
Brown will meet with the Raiders on Wednesday, said the person, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team is not publicly discussing free agent visits. NFL Network first reported the visit.
Wichita State hangs on for 76-73 win over Oklahoma
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Wichita State's Daishon Smith went up, then went up some more before uncorking a powerful dunk that gave the Shockers momentum against Oklahoma.
The 6-foot-1 Smith's jam over 6-7 Kristian Doolittle gave the Shockers a 55-50 lead with 8:28 remaining and provided the spark the Shockers needed to hold on for a 76-73 win Saturday afternoon in the All-College Classic.
