The best Zach Johnson? Club pro 1 shot better than other ZJ
ST. LOUIS (AP) — All he wanted was to be the best Zach Johnson he could be. Turns out, he was the best Zach Johnson in golf Friday.
There are two players going by the same name this week at the PGA Championship: Zach Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the two-time major winner, and Zach Johnson from Davis Park Golf Course in Utah, who was one of the 20 club pros to qualify into the year's final major.

Johnson parlays recon of Bellerive into sharp PGA start
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Only two players made the side trip to Bellerive Country Club last week to check out the site of the PGA Championship, squeezing in a quick practice round before the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
Zach Johnson thought it benefited him.
Phil Mickelson might have been better off staying at home.
PGA Championship at a glance
ST. LOUIS (AP) — A brief look at Thursday's first round at the PGA Championship (all times EDT):

TRAILING: Rickie Fowler (65) was one shot behind, with Brandon Stone and Zach Johnson another shot back.

Tee for 2: PGA lineup features not 1 but 2 Zach Johnsons
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Before he hits a single shot at the PGA Championship, Zach Johnson already has made a name for himself.
Yes, THAT Zach Johnson.
And that other Zach Johnson, too.
No, golf fans, you are not seeing double. There are two of them roaming the grounds at Bellerive Country Club this week.
One needs no introduction. That would be the two-time major winner, Zach Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a 12-time winner on the PGA Tour who has racked up more than $44 million in winnings.
CARNOUSTIE, Scotland (AP) — They crowded 15 deep against the metal railings down the left side of the 18th fairway, beers put aside and phones pulled out for the moment at hand. All day long they had heard the cheers rolling across the links of Carnoustie and, finally, he was here.
This was their chance to help bring Tiger Woods home.
"Tigah," they shouted as Woods hacked out of the rough and then stuck a wedge to 3 feet on the final hole. "Go on Tigah!"
Woods has mixed bag and another 71 at British Open
CARNOUSTIE, Scotland (AP) — Tiger Woods didn't entirely hurt his chances in the British Open.
Better yet, he didn't hurt anyone in the gallery.
Woods still walked away Friday realizing he made it a little tougher on the weekend at Carnoustie if he wants to end a decade without winning a major. A rugged start, a strong recovery, a few putts for birdie, a few he missed for par, and it added to an even-par 71.
"I could have cleaned up the round a little bit," he said.
CARNOUSTIE, Scotland (AP) — A light rain in the morning that gave way to soft sunlight in the afternoon took some of the sting out of Carnoustie.

CARNOUSTIE, Scotland (AP) — Rory McIlroy has the word "NASTY" written on the soles of his golf shoes and he's talking about "going out swinging" in a bid to end his four-year drought in the majors.

That is a week many golfers have traditionally chosen to take off.
