Zenner a bright spot in Detroit’s dull win
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions won at Arizona for the first time since 1993, and the game was about as tedious as expected between a pair of also-rans.
Lions cut Ameer Abdullah, sign Zach Zenner, Bruce Ellington
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have released running back Ameer Abdullah, cutting ties with their seldom-used, second-round pick from the 2015 draft.
Detroit also signed running back Zach Zenner and receiver Bruce Ellington on Tuesday.
Abdullah had one carry, two catches and returned four kickoffs in three games this year. Abdullah had 1,251 yards rushing and six touchdowns along with had 57 receptions for 420 yards in his career.
Lions waive injured running back Zach Zenner
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions waived running back Zach Zenner from the reserve-injured list.
Detroit made the move Wednesday as it prepared to play at San Francisco.
Zenner hurt his back against Cleveland in the preseason finale.
He earned a spot on the Lions' roster as an undrafted rookie in 2015. He emerged as Detroit's No. 1 running back in 2016 when he closed the regular season with more than 200 yards of offense over the last two games.
Rudock among Lions’ cuts as Detroit trims roster to 53
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have cut quarterback Jake Rudock, paving the way for veteran Matt Cassel to move forward as Matthew Stafford's backup.
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have desperately tried to improve what has been a weakness, signing and drafting players to improve their running game.
Detroit ranked last in the NFL last season in rushing offense and has been among the league's worst on the ground offensively in recent seasons.
Lions general manager Bob Quinn has made it a priority to fix the problem.

Detroit – Detroit Lions rookie tight end Michael Roberts is unexpectedly inactive for the team's season finale against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
Roberts had appeared in all 15 games this season and had played 45 offensive snaps the past two weeks. It's unclear whether the move was disciplinary in nature or the fourth-round pick out of Toledo simply woke up under the weather with a virus that had touched the Lions locker room over the weekend.
Rick Wagner joins T.J. Lang, Travis Swanson on Lions sideline today
Cincinnati – The Detroit Lions will be missing the entire right side of their starting offensive line for Sunday's matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Along with center Travis Swanson, who was ruled out Friday with a concussion, and guard T.J. Lang, who was listed as doubtful with a foot injury, right tackle Rick Wagner will remain sidelined for the third consecutive week with a sprain ankle.
Lions offensive guard T.J. Lang to start vs. Bears
Detroit – The Lions announced they would be down two starting offensive lineman earlier in the week, but at least it's not three. Guard T.J. Lang, who had been listed as questionable with a foot injury, is active and will start against the Chicago Bears.
Defensive end Ziggy Ansah (ankle), who was the other starter listed as questionable, is also active.
Allen Park — With Dwayne Washington sidelined with a hip injury, the Lions will likely go back to Zach Zenner as the third running back in the rotation this week against the Chicago Bears. But what about Tion Green?
The undrafted rookie has yet to be active for a regular season game this season, but offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter expressed confidence in Green's ability to get the job done if needed.
Detroit – Kenny Golladay will return to the lineup after a five-game absence due to a hamstring injury. The Detroit Lions rookie receiver is active for the first time since Week 3.
That, along with the season debut of left tackle Taylor Decker, who was activated off the physically unable to perform list on Saturday, is the good news for the Lions. The bad news is the team will be without defensive end Ziggy Ansah for Sunday's matchup with the Cleveland Browns.
Green Bay, Wis. — The Detroit Lions will be without rookie receiver Kenny Golladay for a fifth straight game Monday night against the Green Bay Packers.
Golladay continues to nurse a hamstring injury. He returned to practice on Friday, in a limited capacity, and was ruled doubtful for the matchup.
Also out for the Lions: Safety Don Carey, linebacker Steve Longa, defensive end Jeremiah Valoaga, offensive tackle Greg Robinson and running backs Zach Zenner and Tion Green.
Packers get starting OL back with G Lane Taylor active
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Packers left guard Lane Taylor is active for the Monday night game against Detroit, allowing the Packers to play their entire starting offensive line for just the second time this season.
Taylor is back after missing a game with an ankle injury.
Cornerbacks Damarious Randall (hamstring/illness) and Kevin King (back) are also active for the Packers against the Lions' potent passing game. They were each listed as questionable.
Detroit – Lions wide Golden Tate is active for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, bucking early reports he would have to miss time with the shoulder injury he suffered against the New Orleans Saints two weeks ago.
Lions’ Tate active against Steelers despite shoulder issue
DETROIT (AP) — Golden Tate is active for the Detroit Lions in Sunday night's game against Pittsburgh despite a shoulder issue that limited the receiver in practice this past week.
Pittsburgh receiver Martavis Bryant is inactive after his social media outburst following a victory over Cincinnati last weekend.
Tate is the Lions' leader with 36 catches for 363 yards this season.
Allen Park — Between the chaos of Sunday's game, and some bye week schedule adjustments, we're a day behind on our film review from the Detroit Lions' 52-38 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Sorry to leave you hanging. Here are 10 observations from the game.
A ROUGH START
On Detroit's opening series, quarterback Matthew Stafford was sacked in the end zone, fumbled the ball and the Saints recovered to take an early lead. Here's why the play broke down.
Zenner brushes off comments about being NFL’s best white RB
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Zach Zenner brushed off comments made by Seattle's Michael Bennett, who said the Detroit Lion was the best white running back in the NFL, insisting he wasn't bothered by the eyebrow-raising comments.
"Everyone's entitled to their opinion," Zenner said. "It sounded like he said some pretty nice stuff, so I'm appreciative of that."
A lot of people are saying nice stuff about Zenner these days, keeping his race out of the conversation.
Seattle’s Bennett weighs in on white RBs, Tate’s physique
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — When Michael Bennett speaks, reporters should be ready for just about anything.
The Seattle defensive lineman proved that last year when he started talking about the Kennedy assassination while discussing Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford.
