State to eliminate panels on wild animal ownership
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio is eliminating two state panels created to help regulate ownership of dangerous wild animals after a suicidal man released lions, tigers and other creatures at his farm in 2011.
The Dangerous and Restricted Animals Advisory Board and the Dangerous Wild Animals State Emergency Response Commission will be discontinued Feb. 20, according to The Columbus Dispatch .
Sheriff: Man’s body found in creek after fleeing deputies
ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio county sheriff says the body of a 43-year-old man has been recovered after he jumped into a creek while fleeing a traffic stop.

Ohio man pleads guilty to raping woman, young daughter
ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man has pleaded guilty to raping a young girl and her mother who prosecutors say dismissed her daughter's complaint about being sexually abused and was then raped by the same man several months later.
The Zanesville Times Recorder reports 34-year-old Sean Payton, of Zanesville, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of rape.
Man convicted of using false name at jail to avoid prison
ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say Robert Mason was a trusted and model prisoner the six times he was booked into Ohio's Zanesville City Jail starting in 2014.
But it wasn't Robert Mason who served those 150-plus days for various misdemeanors. It was Troy Mason, a homeless man who used his brother's name to avoid returning to prison for a parole violation on a felony burglary conviction.
Remains of Ohio WWII soldier finally come home
ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — In what his family believes was his last letter home to Zanesville, Sgt. Harold Davis wrote that his only dream was to see the United States again.
The letter, addressed to his mother and father, came from Australia. He was stationed there for a time as he fought in the Pacific theater in World War II.
"I miss you both more than anything else in this world," the 24-year-old wrote, "and there is no place like home."
Tank leak oozes 300 tons of molten glass into Ohio plant
ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say 300 tons (272 metric tons) of molten glass spilled from a ruptured tank at an Ohio plant, oozing like lava from a small hole that quickly grew several feet wide.
It wrapped around structural beams at the Owens-Illinois glass plant in Zanesville on Monday. Firefighters worked for hours to cool the glass so it wouldn't destroy beams and collapse the building.

The Muskingum County Prosecutor's Office says 41-year-old Dale Dudas pleaded guilty Friday in the beating death of Leo Hayes. Authorities say the 62-year-old Hayes was found dead Nov. 12 outside a church in Zanesville, about 55 miles (89 kilometers) east of Columbus.

Police: Ohio homeless man was killed and then set on fire
ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in central Ohio say a homeless man who was killed and then set on fire died of blunt force trauma, and it's under investigation as a homicide.
A 911 caller alerted emergency responders about the burning body Saturday night in downtown Zanesville. They found the man on fire outside a side entrance to a Presbyterian church where police say the homeless often sleep on the porch.
