Edwards, Cheatham help Arizona St. beat Utah 98-87
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Arizona State stayed in the NCAA Tournament picture by putting together one of its best offensive performances of the season.
The Sun Devils heated up early and never cooled down on their way to beating Utah 98-87 on Saturday night. Arizona State dominated around the basket and lit it up from the perimeter to keep the Utes on their heels for 40 minutes.
"We didn't settle," guard Rob Edwards said. "We didn't let the gas up. We kept going to them the whole game."
Arizona State beats UCLA 84-73 for 3rd straight win
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It's not often Arizona State visits UCLA anymore thanks to Pac-12 scheduling. It's even rarer for the Sun Devils to win there.
Remy Martin scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half and had a career-high 11 assists, helping the ASU to an 84-73 victory on Thursday night for its first win at Pauley Pavilion since 2009.
The Sun Devils (14-5, 5-2 Pac-12) moved into a second-place tie with Arizona, which lost at USC 80-57. They've won three in a row.
Balanced Sun Devils use big outburst to beat Ducks 78-64
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State ran away from Oregon with a 19-0 second-half run, and the unquestioned highlight was a monster dunk by Zylan Cheatham over the Ducks' Kenny Wooten.
"He's an elite shot-blocker," Cheatham said, "so I wasn't going to be on the other side of SportsCenter. It was pretty much him or me when I got him in the air and I won this battle."
It was, Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley said, a "statement-type" play in the 78-64 Sun Devils victory.
Edwards helps Arizona St hold on to edge Oregon St 70-67
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State's struggles at the free throw line helped Oregon State mount a late comeback. But when the Sun Devils needed two foul shots the most, Rob Edwards delivered.
Edwards' 13 points included two clutch free throws with 12.1 seconds to play, and Arizona State held on to hand Oregon State its first Pac-12 loss of the season, 70-67 on Thursday night.
Edwards is statistically the top free throw shooter for Arizona State among regular players at 23 of 26 on the season.
Okpala, da Silva each score 21 in Stanford’s 85-71 victory
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Oscar da Silva acknowledged he hasn't always brought the right mindset into a game. He changed that Saturday.
Da Silva scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds, KZ Okpala added 21 points and nine rebounds and Stanford downed Arizona State 85-71 on Saturday to earn its first conference victory.
"He was awesome," Stanford coach Jerod Haase said of da Silva. "He has to be one of the guys who play at a high level. I'd like to see Oscar play like that more consistently."
Martin gets Sun Devils going in second half of 80-66 win
BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — Remy Martin is getting increasingly comfortable coming off the bench, even as Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley is making plans to change that.
For the second straight game the Sun Devils point guard was not in the starting lineup, though it hardly mattered.
No. 18 Arizona State knocks off top-ranked Kansas 80-76
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Zylan Cheatham bounded down the hallway inside Wells Fargo Arena, half skipping, half jumping as he high-fived family, friends, anyone he could reach.
"Let's go! Let's go! Let's gooooo!" the Arizona State forward shouted.
Let it be heard: the Sun Devils have arrived.
Poised down the stretch after trailing most of the night, No. 18 Arizona State pulled off one of the biggest victories in school history by knocking off No. 1 Kansas 80-76 on Saturday.
Arizona State beats Texas Southern 83-71 behind Cheatham
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Zylan Cheatham turned down an open shot, drove into the lane and kicked the ball out to Luguentz Dort at the 3-point line.
Dort missed on a lob that would have given Cheatham a triple double three days earlier and heard plenty about it from his teammate. The freshman knocked the shot down this time, sending Cheatham into the record book.
Arizona State rolls over Nebraska-Omaha 89-71
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State returned from a tournament title in Las Vegas missing three players due to injuries.
After a sluggish start, the Sun Devils didn't seem to need them. Not with so much depth and Zylan Cheatham filling up the stat sheet.
Cheatham orchestrated Arizona State's offense and finished an assist short of the second triple-double in school history, helping the Sun Devils roll to an 89-71 victory over Nebraska-Omaha Wednesday night.
Balanced Arizona State overpowers Long Beach State 90-54
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Sixty-three rebounds in a game hadn't happened since the 2002-2003 season, until Arizona State reached that mark again on Monday night.

Arizona State becomes Big Guard U in bid for NCAA repeat
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State became known as Guard U during its run to the NCAA Tournament a year ago. Led by three senior guards, the Sun Devils run-and-gunned their way into the bracket for the first time in four years.
Now that Tra Holder, Kodi Justice and Shannon Evans II are gone, Arizona State will rely on a new, bigger batch of guards. The Sun Devils have transformed into Big Guard U in their bid to reach the NCAA Tournament in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1980-81.
