NW Houston road projects wrap up, more in the works
Commuters in Harris County precincts 3 and 4 can expect construction on Grant Road and other road projects to wrap up soon, as well as the start of multiple year-long construction projects.
The two precincts have projects slated throughout 2019 and possibly into 2020, including improvements for Champions Drive from FM 1960 to Cypress Creek and improvements for Louetta Road from Stablewood Farms to Telge Road.
Construction of a four-lane boulevard on Grant Road from Lakewood Forest to Old Kluge Road is nearing completion as work proceeds on several punch list items, according to Pct. 3 officials.
Harris County Precinct 4 confirmed that the road construction project on Telge Road from Spring Cypress Road south of Little Cypress Creek to Spring Cypress Road north of the creek is also close to completion. The project entails constructing a four-lane boulevard with a bridge widening over the creek.
Pamela Rocchi, director of the capital improvement projects division for Pct. 4, said the Telge Road construction is a joint participation project between precincts 3 and 4.
“Roadway improvements are complete and the contractor is currently completing the detention pond and working on punch list items,” Rocchi said.
Both precincts are also collaborating on an extension of Louetta Road from Stablewood Farms, located in Pct. 3, and Telge Road, located in Pct. 4. Randy Schilhab, manager of engineering for Pct. 3, said the project includes a four-lane concrete pavement section and twin bridges over Little Cypress Creek.
“The study phase will be complete early second quarter (2019),” Schilhab said. “Design phase will commence upon completion of the study phase. The project should be bid-ready late this year with construction commencing approximately first or second quarter next year.”
On Sept. 28, 2018 Harris County Commissioner’s Court gave the notice to proceed with construction on Champions Drive from FM 1960 to Cypress Creek, Pct. 4 officials said. Champions Drive will be upgraded to a concrete paved road with a better drainage system to prevent flooding in nearby neighborhoods, Rocchi said.
“The Champions Drive project is scheduled for completion by April 2020 barring any unforeseen circumstances beyond the contractor’s control,” she said. “This is a joint participation project between Harris County Precinct 4 and Champions Municipal Utility District.”
The Gosling Road bridge over Spring Creek is currently under construction and does not have a firm completion date, according to Rocchi.
“Proposed improvements include the addition of a of a twin bridge over Spring Creek,” she said. “The project is currently in the study phase. (It is a) joint participation project between Harris County Precinct 4 and Montgomery County Precinct 3. Project development continues to progress.”
Harris County Pct. 3 completed multiple projects within the past six months including construction of dual left lane turns on Mason Road at Franz Road, a traffic signal system at Greenhouse Road at Cypress Bay and Mason Road at Katybriar Lane and extension of the left turn lane at Morton Road at Greenhouse Road. Currently, Pct. 3 is constructing a traffic signal system at Cypress Creek Bend Drive.
